Re: HT550 Grand Depart - May 2022

Im hoping to hit Contin at around 1am early Sunday morning....no going back from there......That could be a bit optermistic on my part mind! If you miss Contin shop, and they're not serving at Oykel Bridge Hotel, your next re-supply is Drumbeg Stores. I would suggest 1am at Contin is pretty optimis...

Few years old now. Salsa FS bikes are 157mm. Works well

Dont suppose anyone has any last min tips for me? Ive never ridden in scotland, so not really sure what to expect other than expect trench foot and to be bitten by midges and ticks..... In Glen Ling, after the climb up Attadale on the way to Dornie, you'll arrive at two gates, about 15m apart. Go s...

Ta Andy... What other outdoor type dehydrated shops (Spar or coop will do) are enroute in other areas. Preferably quieter locations to kerp the bikes safe(er)... I've loaded the route/routes to MyMaps (thanks Chris E) and looking around. But there's alot of shops/info  Spar at Staveley befor...

Re: #jennride 2022 28/29th of May

In less cerebral and more alimentary/intestinal news, I've phoned the Barn Door shop at Wasdale Head and they're open until 5.30pm. It's the only shop on the route between Keswick and Ambleside really, but sells a good range of camping type food - dehydrated stuff, sweets, sandwiches (I think) along...

Re: #jennride 2022 28/29th of May

Thanks Andy for pointing that they're actually gps errors I'm only guessing Shaf. I remember arriving at Hawkshead on one Jennride and there were a group of confused looking riders. Between us, we had 4 different routes showing on GPS devices to get through the village and up into Grizedale. I know...

Just looking at the GPS track there looks like a couple of errors: Coming out of Pooley Bridge at around 40km http://streetmap.co.uk/map?X=346796&Y=524333&A=Y&Z=115 I'm not sure what physical features are on the ground through the wood but further on the route follows a footpath that pa...

Re: May Monkey Brain

My take on this is that having so many options in life creates pressure to make the right choice, and the fear of missing out. Make a choice and then enjoy doing whatever it is. 'Live in the moment' I guess. Time doesn't allow you to go back and change your mind and regrets are no good. If you made ...

Re: Wildlife

While 'riding' the Tollie path out of Poolewe on Wednesday, an eagle flew towards me. It's wing size/shape looked odd and as it got nearer, it clearly had a pale head and whitish tail - a White tailed or Sea eagle 🦅 I've only seen one before, on Trotternish, Skye. It seemed to be being followed by a...

I'm aiming to set off from Fort Augustus tomorrow for a tour around the northern bits. Alan's let me register on the tracker, which makes it easy for family to see where I am/still alive. Wildcat harness - try two separate dry bags, loosely packed. First moulds into the harness, second one fills it out. Fairly lightweight RAB dry bags work.
