01-01-23 - 119.1kg
06-01-23 - 121kg
I'm obviously just regaining the weight I lost while ill so I'm not really considering it gain but more the actual baseline.

Re: Fat Fighters '23
Thought I'd go back through the first weigh-in for each year I've been participating in this fun thread - here goes..... 2023: 119.1kg 2022: 125.1kg 2021: 115.4kg 2020: ???kg 2019: 115.7kg 2018: 111kg So.....what I'm taking from the above was that, despite feeling very negative about '22 and my weig...

Re: 2023 - Plans, rides and things to look forward to
I have a bunch of things I have in mind for next year but only two that I feel I really need to do. - It's the 10th edition of the Tuscany Trail and it'll be my 9th year in attendance (so annoyed I missed the 1st year). - I always like to do a 3-4 day version/variation on the Veneto Gravel event rou...

Re: Fat Fighters '22 - (The year of victory edition!)
After a truly crappy run of illnesses and injuries I was looking forward to Christmas but.....I went and got myself a nasty virus thingy and have been out of action for days now. The entire of my excessive Christmas eating today was a slice of bread with some fried mushrooms on mid-morning and a pic...

Re: Fat Fighters '22 - (The year of victory edition!)
Another year of progress in some areas, quite the opposite in others. Here's my numbers (not so much weighing myself in the second half of the year): (25-12-21 - 125.1kg) 01-01-22 - 121.2kg 07-01-22 - 122.2kg 15-01-22 - 121.8kg 28-01-22 - 120.6kg 04-02-22 - 118.9kg 11-02-22 - 119.2kg 25-02-22...

Re: Dealing with the cold
I also have a pair of Columbia bugaboots which are size 12, have space for two pairs of thick socks and themselves are allegedly good down to -20. When I wore these on the Rovaniemi 150 it was -5 and I got very cold feet. Really? I'm on my second pair of Bugaboots - I absolutely love 'em!!! Ridden ...

Re: Riding on Monday?
Very interesting watching all of this from a nice safe distance.
I likened it to losing a Spice Girl (sad a person died, culturally obviously very important but minimal personal impact) - didn't go down well weirdly...
Fairly sure I'm ok to ride Monday

Re: Packable v Heavyweight Waterproofs
I roll mine up and tuck it under the straps on the Wildcat bar harness. Slight loosening and retightening of 2 buckles and it's ready. Same here but under my Wildcat seatpack straps. :-bd Oh, and a different jacket but you get the idea... Big, serious waterproofs only come on trips where it's raini...

Re: Long-term packing?
I always have the intention of getting everything sorted well in advance but always seem to end up leaving it to the night before  That happens quite a lot too. I often plan to plan, vaguely do things in a plan like manner in advance and then change everything at the last minute and wing it. :...

Long-term packing?
Does anyone that spread their packing, fettling, kit decisions, route choices and everything else over a nice long period of time prior to leaving for a trip or is it just me??? I think it's all part of the anticipation being half the fun thing as I do get a lot of satisfaction from going over and o...

You'll all be (quite rightly) disinterested to know that I chose the sensible middle ground and am taking the Monster Cross bike (again).

Re: New multi-tool and/or leatherman type thingy advice...
Agreed. What I meant was by the time I'd gathered all of the individual tools I needed to work on every bike it totaled much more than any multi-tool in terms of weight and space (and much less convenient to find in the bag). My tools all live in a top tube bag that I just strap onto whichever bike ...

Re: New multi-tool and/or leatherman type thingy advice...
Once used a multitool; however,... Then found it increasing more convenient to have individual HEX keys, chain tool, spoke key On paper I agree but having to switch my toolkit between multiple bikes all with different tool needs I find that a decent multi-tool covers all the bases without me having...

Plus one for 'hire an e-bike'. :-bd Still no. :-bd Precisely zero interest in riding a motorbike* instead of my actual bikes**. Re: What bike for bugger all fitness???
Monster Cross. I reckon take your time and enjoy it. The other two options sound like hard work! I know!!! But.....I literally, actually and genuinely built the monster cross bike with the tuscany trail in mind and so have done it the last three years in a row on that bike. I've previously done it ...

What bike for bugger all fitness???
Howdy folks! Next week I'm finally heading down (mum not well earlier in the year so missed the mass start) into the Italy to do my annual Tuscany Trail pilgrimage. And.....I'm in fairly crap shape. Not horrifically poor form and to be fair my back is currently as good as it's been in a decade so :-...
