Sketchy brakes
I've been updating various bits on my hardtail ahead of the Highland Trail group start in May. It's just got a new chain, cassette and shifter and I've got new tyres to put on in a couple of weeks. BB and mech are fairly new anyhow and the bike's just had a full service and a clean bill of health. T...

Re: Has anyone actually managed to buy a bike this year?
Yup, managed to get a Merida Big Trail in January. Was considering it or a Vitus Sentier which was showing in stock (after a stock alert) on CRC. Called my local shop and they had Meridas coming in the following day - must have been fate! Sure enough they turned up and I'm now the very happy owner ...

From what I've heard, you're very lucky to get hold of a Santa Cruz frame... out of my budget anyhow!

Re: Has anyone actually managed to buy a bike this year?
If you can't be bothered with ringing about then CRC are pretty good with their updates on stock. You do have to be very quick and not hesitate. They put a few up and they are often gone within half an hour! Thanks, I think technically I could cancel my Ribble order and use the C2W voucher elsewher...

Re: Has anyone actually managed to buy a bike this year?
Fingers crossed a big box from Sonder arrives early June. I ordered it a week ago, glad I didn't ponder it much longer as the order books won't open again until November apparently... :o I was going to order a Camino at the beginning of the year, but at that stage they were saying November for the ...

Has anyone actually managed to buy a bike this year?
Ordered one in January, was supposed to be arriving in April. The delivery date was even brought forward at one stage, but now it’ll be midsummer ‘at the earliest’. Doesn’t sound too hopeful. Meanwhile, I’m paying Cycle to Work for several months without even a sniff of a new bike. It might even be ...

Re: Scotland 26th April - Bikepacking?
What is snow like on the HT550? My friend was lead to believe there is still snow on some of the passes. And only two weeks until we start. The top of Corrieairyack pass has some snow lying across the top and on the northern side - just means you've got to walk the first few hundred metres down. No...

I did this on the premise that it is for academic research but it smelled a bit of market research instead. I always think it is polite at the end to tell the user why the data helps and how it will be used. Jesus we're a moany bunch around here ;-) Have to say that every academic survey I've fille...

Re: Custom dry bags?
It's the 2.92oz hybrid DCF with a face fabric Reg so I'm hoping it's durable. Not had it out yet so I'll report back! Only thing I didn't like is he uses a velcro end for the dry bag which I'm not convinced with, but it's custom so you can ask for what you want! Communication and workmanship are go...

Custom dry bags?
The Alpkit 8l Airlock Xtra is very close to my ideal dry bag for mounting in a bar harness. I like the shape, the fact it’s not double-ended, and the tabs to thread the straps through. If only it was about 5cm taller... basically a 9l bag would nail it. I don’t think this is something Alpkit would c...

FS: Ergon GA3 grips SOLD
Selling a pair of Ergon GA3 grips in nightride blue: https://bikepacking.com/gear/ergon-ga3-grips-review-video/ I bought them in Feb and have used them on a few rides, but my right hand just doesn't get on with them, so I've gone back to my old grips. £18 posted. They've not been used much and in re...

Also a big fan of quality instant noodles which often really cheap in Chinese supermarkets. Or try this for a homemade version... Bag up some of those thin rice noodles, dried mushrooms, tsp of dry ginger, 0.5tsp of cayenne, veg stock cube and a tsp of dried coriander. Get the water boiling and tip ...
