Re: FS Surly Krampus

jBay My ideal bike of course but that may not be your or anyone elses ideal bike. I am going N-2 so bike has to fulfill three functions from off road hack and weekend/long distance off road tourer to shopping special. Steel frame, full set of braze ons, 3 x n, 29er with 40ish mm rims so I have a wid...

Re: To Knobble or not...

I don't know if the chalk you are traveling over is anything like the chalk mix on the Ridgeway but I would be more concerned about flint than anything else. I changed to the tallest knobblies I could when I used to ride up there and it still managed to puncture occasionally. The 'mud' drys like con...

Re: Thinking of a Stooge.

Thanks for the information guys. Had a look at the website indicated and very interesting especially the comments after. By way of an experiment I felt inspired to give this go then realised the only combination I have to hand would be to fit a 29 x 2.2 on a Rabbit rim  If you see a Krampus wi...

Re: Thinking of a Stooge.

I was reading the 'ideal setup' over on the Stooge website and was puzzled by the recommendation of 3" front and narrower rear. To me this seems counter intuitive but I have no experience of this set up - never having knowingly ridden a bike with different width tires front and rear. After a 26...

Re: BIvi spots on Dartmoor?

I like it round Burrator Reservoir but need to watch exactly whose land you are on. Otherwise its wild camping wherever you end up. Need to watch the weather though. Four of use bivvied one night in mist so thick I still dont know where it was. It is fairly easy to drop down to lower levels if weath...

OK £950 free P&P UK mainland.

Your chance to acquire a 29er+ in excellent condition at knock down price.
I need the space before new bike arrives.

MussEd - maybe.
Stevemorg - no but you could buy it keep the wheels and sell on the other bits.

Re: Shand Bahookie "Lancia Stratos"

what if you just don't bond with it or it doesn't feel like an improvement over your previous mass produced frame? Interesting turn of phrase. I am trying to bond with my new bike but its not happening not while I have the old one. I dont know if its familiarity with the old one or changing to Jone...

Re: Sleeping cold

Second the dry warm feet recommendation. I have some really cheap red acrylic socks with loops on the inside. But a word of warning you might need to work out a way of taking them off in the middle of the night if your feet get too warm without getting out of your bag or getting cramp or letting all...

Re: 29r recommendations then

I'm also thinking of going back to alloy over steel due to weight Weight is only relative. My alloy 29er hardtail running 3 x 9 with RS forks and 29 x 2.2 Geax weighs as near as makes no difference the same as my Krampus. This was done on uncalibrated wobbly bathroom scales so dont take as gospel. ...

Re: night time glasses

I use Sunwise and change to coloured or clear as required. I also have prescription lenses in the inner frame.
I have worn these as over glasses on top of my normal glasses without the inner but only on road in the rain.

Just found another zip file marked cgloop500. Unzipped this and it gives me at first glance a clean complete route.
Thanks for your input.

CG Loop .gpx

Anyone else found Cairngorm Loop .gpx corrupt? I have down loaded from website and opened in bikehike and it has two spurious lines across it with a flag at the end of each one. I think the flags are start finish marks but it wont let me do anything other than delete bits of it. Has anyone got a wor...

Re: Lost in Rohloff part numbers

VeganGraham Thanks for the information. Will go for the solid axel as that also gives a degree of security over QR. I hope to use existing 180mm Avid disc if fixing pcd will fit. Interesting comments on the selector cable and the ‘oilers’. Will spec this for the installation rather than arrive at it...

Lost in Rohloff part numbers

As there are some good deals around at present on Rohloff hubs thought I would price one up for my Krampus. It would be great if there was just a kit list for a bike. I tried their hub finder but couldn't make it work. I think I can identify the hub I need but its all the other stuff that is puzzlin...
