I splashed the cash and I'm glad I did.
Here's my review of the Northwave.

Re: Spot trackers - talk to me!
This is where I find myself. The cost of the tracker itself; fine. Where I'm struggling is the extra £100+ a year in costs for the subscription.FLV wrote: My good lady wants me to get one as I ride on my own quite a lot, often in the dark at this time of year.

Re: If there were a UK 'gravel race' ...
As for not finishing - I was just feeling weak - everyone has a bad day now and then, I just happened to get one when I was planning to ride 200 miles... I was on the 29er too. Singlespeed - nowhere to hide  As harsh as it may sound I'm glad it was you having an off day and not the route in ...

So I guessing some of these roads were in a terrible muddy condition then? Were you on the CX or MTB bike?

Re: New Bothy in Welshest Wales
I'm sure there was a video or maybe a magazine feature or something where a guy did a ladder climb to the top of somewhere with the bike in bits on his back then rode down. Any ideas any one? I have been looking but can't find it.

So now this has been completely outed as snakes and ladders here's the flickr gallery that Ian's pic came from. http://www.flickr.com/photos/66871512@N07/with/6088480481/ This route even has it's own blog, haha. http://snakesladdersandtunnels.blogspot.co.uk/ Doesn't really seem like a sensible way t...

Re: What tyres?!!
For conditions that don't include slippery top layer of mud then I really dig Maxis Aspen, even the 2.2's (26inch) are fairly lite. I'll be using the 29er version for the gravel race for instance. Currently though as an all rounder I really like the On One Smorgasbord. Not lite weight, but I think t...

That one looks amazing. It's like one of those photos in those lists of incredible photos of places you will never visit, only this one is actually doable... and just doable but doable while out riding your bike. 8-)

They are look great, the photo for the White Rim one makes it look amazing.
Not sure how appealing the "big long tow path" is though. I find tow paths so incredibly dull. I would rather be on the road, at least there are some corners to negotiate.

Re: Winter Bivvy - date?
I'm sure it will be fine. I was banking on people having different cameras so knew I would probably have to do some colour matching and stuff to get it to all work together. I might even have 2 myself if I decide to bring the Canon as well.

I'm planning on doing my last bike video of the year on this trip.
If any one who is coming has a bike camera wouldn't mind bringing it, we could get loads of footage and I'll cut it together. :)

The "Bothy Rooms" at the elephant and castle in Newtown are certainly less tasteful than that place. Looks like a nice spot.
