Re: How unfit am I?

What does 'fit' mean and what does 'unfit' mean I wonder? Who gets to say? It means absolutely nothing. It has no meaning. We use the terms fit and unfit in a very glib way. What we are usually referring to is a single sport efficiency. As an example, Mo Farrah has a 10K run time 14 minutes faster ...

Re: Tom! Pidcock!

The thing they all have in common is not the sitting down, it's the fact you need expensive equipment to do them. I've often wondered of the Kenyans would clean up in cycling like they do in long distance running if they had a generation that had been riding bikes since childhood? A number of pundi...

Re: Quilt recommendations

Unlike most, I have a Cumulus 150. I'm a hot and restless sleeper, but even for me wearing a merino top I found it too cold for temps below 6C. Incredibly light and packs to nothing but your needs will dictate what to get.

Sorry, I don't mean to highjack the thread OP, but why isn't the Sonder Broken Road not a good choice? I'm in a similar position to you and this was on my shortlist.
I must admit that Cotic does look great. Steel V Ti? Whats the best for a bike packing/trail bike?

I use the (Crikey, how much) harness rear pack. Heavy, but very secure. By the way, who made their bags?

Re: Pairing quilt with mat?

Well for me its a Rab silk bag liner inside a Cumulus 150 with foot box zipped on top of an Exped Synmat UL with straps loosely fitted from quilt around the base of the mat. I use the silk liner as I find this does away with the problems of draughts and if I get too warm I roll the quilt down so I'm...

Re: What happened to 24 hour racing?

I would have thought that, largely, the people interested in XC racing would be the ones, again generally, interested in 24 hr racing. I think l XC racing has had some decline as people look elsewhere for fun as off road bikes polarise. Also, hasn't there been a, lessening of interest/bad weather/lo...

Re: Going tubeless...

It is Beto Surge Tubeless pump that has a burst tank to allow you to build air pressure within it and then let it out, filling the tyre quickly. As I said it then only took a few more pumps to get the pops. It stung a bit to buy - £60 - actually it stung alot to buy but I was in a hole, tyres off, ...

Re: Going tubeless...

I've been running all off road bikes tubeless for about 7 years now. Tyre pressures obvs depends on many factors. Enve do a good calculator. FWIW I run 35psi on 42mm tyres and 21 psi on 55mm. I still think tubeless is a real faff that is only just justifiable. I can't believe someone can't develop a...

I'm 68. I cycle more often now than probably any of my 45 years as a cyclist. I just don't ride as far or as fast! I do look back in that I am pretty staggered how slow I am now compared with the past, but most of my thoughts are for the future and the opportunities I now have for off road riding an...

Do you ever read these posts? This has been done many times already. Listen very carefully.... Set the hook/drop at standard bar height - whatever that is for you - for me it’s saddle height or a tad below. This is your normal riding position. What drops give you here is a comfortable, wide, stance...

Re: Monster or Gravel WKR - Probably Ti

I've never thought of "gravel" bikes having a use on the road except for joining up bits of off-road. Thats one of their main strengths I think. In the past I would try as much as possible not to ride on the road on a mountain bike ride, but happily do bits of road on a gravel ride to do b...
