Re: BB200 2023

What I note is that the faster riders pack very light, I knew there was a risk of a stop and packed accordingly, perhaps stopping anyone finishing before 22 or 23 hours may make it more of a bike packing event for all entrants I didn't pack more than the bare minimum for the 300 either. No point in...

Re: The post man's been ...

Thanks to everything coming so late before the BB200, I'm now having to send a bunch back without having even really looked it over properly. Some online stores have properly shocking return terms. Definitely pays to check before ordering. I can recommend cyclestore as one that's very much in the ot...

Supposed to be summa that stuck/sticks in your head for years Rich  Not summat you have to recall. I always remember swearing at him in broad daylight/audience and then regretting it. Regret it to this day  My memory doesn't work like most people's, if I can't find a context I wont rememb...

I can't tell you how strange it was for me doing an event where I couldn't think of any obvious reason to swear at the organiser.

Put me right out.

Re: BB200 2023

You have fallen for the confusion between a RoW and a path/track. The two may align on the ground but more often than not they don’t. The big clue is if the line of the RoW is flowing curves or even a straight line- that’s just a conceptual “there’s a route across here somewhere “. Stu has a couple...

Re: BB200 2023

{makes note to ban the use of drones} NOOOOOOOOO! :???: I always thought that (riding left or right of Stus perfectly calculated line) would mean an 'off route' and thus potential DNF (if he bothered to check up) qualification  If that's the case, there's never been a completed BB200!

Re: BB200 2023

I do wonder how they would feel about the old GPX routes, which took straight lines around corners and would often have you wondering if you should be going over rivers and through forests to get to where you were going, rather than just following the curve of the track. The new ones are near perfec...

Re: BB200 2023

Also you do need to be pleased with your overall time that's a storming ride Yup, there are people who have been trying years to achieve that sort of a time. So to rock up and just knock it out of the park like that... can't be bad. Regarding the route... there have been times when I really, honest...

I still don't know what's going on with the order. I had a couple more items arrive before last weekend, and they've not sent me a message to tell me if the rest is coming or not.

Is bizarre.

Re: BB200 2023

Without wishing to patronise, completing BB200 as a relative newbie is very impressive, and to be honest I quite understand why you didn't enjoy it all but do think it's a mindset thing. You need to try and find your Type II fun receptors! (Or not, as not everything is for everyone). I've always ha...

Re: Big Bear 520

Are you thinking of a winter attempt Rich  No, I'm lucky in that being self employed I could pick a fairly decent weather window. I'd probably go for spring as it would mean I'm not dealing with the worst of the foliage. However, the odds on 5 days of dry weather in a row in Wales... probably...

Re: BB200 2023

Oh, I forgot to ask... when was the bridleway at 72k resurfaced?

I've been up (BB300) and down it previously and it used to be very raw and rocky. It's almost pleasant to make your way up it now.

Unless something changes next weekend, this years award for 'cutting it fine' will go to Alpkit Kenny who set off on the 300 at 07.35 on Sat and returned at 19.33 on Sun. Surprisingly, I recall last time, he returned with even less margin. You should check what direction he's coming in from....

I'll never understood why people don't turn that stuff off. Also, all that fucking beeping. SHUT UP. Wouldn't be so bad, but the "off course" notifications most GPSs give start when it thinks you're about a centimetre to the right or left of the actual trail. You do realise you can turn t...

Re: BB200 2023

Reminds me of 2014...... (Which I quite enjoyed, unlike many!) It's worth noting that for much of that section, the "path" was no-where near as clear as that (if it existed at all). Edit - As for easiest ever, I'd say 2016 or 2017. It would actually be fascinating to see the median times ...

Re: 2023 BB200/300 weights thread

I think I got through about 8 litres of water total in sub 20 hours, which sounds about right. Brought along some alternate tasting nuts which I thought I'd be able to go for when I went off food, but I couldn't really face them either. The only thing my body allowed me to eat in the end was liquori...
