Re: Waterproof Shorts (Occasional Use)

Wore Madison Zenith waterproof shorts for bearstock, they were great

Waterproof and non sweaty, don't pack down too big (though I wore them the whole time). I had a pair of montane atomic pants in my bag but never used them as the shorts were great

Re: Reproofing Goretex jackets

How many jackets do you guys proof at the same time? Also, does anyone bother washing by hand in the bath or a big bucket, rather than have to get all the previous washing detergent out of the washing machine. [Although I think that's only a concern if you're not proofing after? Non-soap based deter...

Re: Reproofing Goretex jackets

I had a discussion about this at the Winter Event

I don't really understand how washing it in is better than spraying it on, unless it's just easier

I'd have assumed you want the DWR on the outside and not on the inside?

Never had it, doubt I've cycled long enough or far enough!

Have you got enough hand positions? Would some extra options help a bit maybe?

Maybe it's your back to front levers

Re: Gore Element Paclite jacket - any good?

If I lived in Wales I'd be buying something heavier duty than paclite. I use the worlds lightest waterproof as my back up jacket (berghaus hypersmock 2) but it's way too light for everyday use Of all my jackets, my berghaus 3 layer goretex is the toughest but I don't really wear it for biking much, ...

Re: Bearstock - Thanks

Yes, it looks like the first half of the tautline hitch but with a slippery hitch to lock it rather than the original loop. I've a recollection of seeing that site before. Looks a useful way of tying it if you've a long line that you keep for those occasions where you can't get anything close to ha...

Re: Bearstock - Thanks

It's very similar to the tautline hitch but slightly different. The main benefit is it's slippery i.e. you can undo it with one pull of the cord I've called it a guyline tensioner hitch/knot in the past, although I'm sure there's a proper name. I picked it up over 10 years ago when I was bushcraftin...

Re: How are the midges stu?

Ben, ticks take about 3 - 5 days from attaching to dropping off so it's unlikely that the tick you saw was picked up at the weekend. Good to know, thanks Bob. I wanted to find this out as the dog had picked a different one a while ago and couldn't work out if it was picked up locally (given I live ...

Re: How are the midges stu?

I usually check myself at the end of each ride but there's certainly nothing obvious on me. Probably would have scrubbed them off in the shower anyway. I must admit that like a numpty, I didn't do a check. But this thing was massive, and it fell off me when I was sitting on the sofa in lycra (havin...

Re: How are the midges stu?

Did anyone pick up any ticks?

Wife just found one on the floor that she reckons fell off me when I've literally just sat down, it's bloody massive, bigger than a piece of sweetcorn.

I reckon it's from the dog but can't be sure. Can't be bothered with a trip to the doc to get checked out...

Re: What size Drybag is in your front harness?

Revelate Salty Roll on a Revelate Harness. It's a 15 litre bag but it's much wider and narrower than most other dry bags, double ended too There's far less chance I'm going to hit it on my wheel when using a suspension fork Mat, quilt, bivy bag and sleeping clothes fit in no problem. It's for my cam...

Re: Custom frame bag what features to go for

Full frame bags always 'look' to be a better use of space, but the water in bladder vs water in bottles approach means I've been happy with a partial frame bag and bottles. One bottle is my water filter bottle too, just stick the filter in when I top up from streams Another option is a custom made p...

Good advice from LSJ, nothing to more to add on that!

I stopped hammocking a while ago as it's too much faff for bikepacking, but it's pretty much the comfiest nights sleep around!

:D I wanted to ask if anyone got bitten

I didn't bring my headnet but I did bring some boot-polish-looking repellent which stopped them biting (though they still blooming landed on me). I couldn't work out if the repellent worked or they just weren't very bitey... obviously the former
