Looks great. Always fancied a bivvy at the barracks. Is it floodlit through the night?

Blair there's a wee trail report on biking to Tarf hotel on mountain bothies Scotland fb page. Looks like they left their bikes short of the bothy.

We'll probably be on the train to Kingussie. We can dip in and out of Blair's route and hopefully meet up on the way.

Ride with junior and some friends round one of the red vtt routes in the Jura region of France. Very hot. 48k of undemanding riding but a chance to see some real out of the way villages.

There was a tweet yesterday saying it was to avoid the worst trans Siberian traffic. Personally I thought the change might have been heat related.

Re: The Traversée du Massif Vosgien, Alsace, France

Strasbourg is an awkward spot to get from/to. Looked at getting back to UK from Strasbourg. All trains I could find go through Paris.

The best bet I could find was bike express (www.bike-express.co.uk) which goes through Nancy or Epinal. You could get a train from there.

Hope this helps.

1st bivvy of the year and 1st bothy trip with my son Fraser(10). At Adventure Syndicate in Glasgow last November, Fraser was given a challenge for 2018 by Lee Craigie, to bikepack and stay at the renovated bothy in Glen Feshie. Dodged the worst of the thunder storms and rain to get to the bothy. Fra...

I'm a mibbe at the moment. Junior may be completing at Dundee Track Omnium that weekend so I would be needed for pitbitching.

Also I seem to have inherited Rays back problems and am grounded just now.

Sorry to hear that. There's no understanding the youth of today. Why would a young teenager want to give up the opportunity to ride in freezing weather, stay in a run down building with no facilities and glean amazing amounts of knowledge from inebriated old gits just so he can go to a party with p...

Re: Scotland Winter Bivi.

I know December is a wee while away however I spotted a thread on mountain bothies Scotland fb page which said Duinish has no front door at present. Seems the surround is rotten. There is a gate in place just now to keep animals out. Do we want to consider a possible alternative? I'll keep an eye on...

Re: Our 1955 Tour de France trip.

Just picked up your thread. It's a great idea. I've had a notion for quite a while to ride the route of the 1963 Tour when I retire. Just inspired me to do some research. In case anyone wonders, I was born in 1963.

Have a great trip. Will follow with interest.
