Re: Kielder and Cheviots c2c.

Do you reckon this ( the off-road part) would be doable with panniers on? Might want to give it a go as part of a longer trip coming back on one of the C2C routes, and I'm not sure I can talk my wife into multiday minimalism

Re: Schnozzle or pillow?

Pillow user here. I find it comfortable enough as a pillow, and it works well to inflate the mat. It packs away quite tidily but I do like the idea of using the schozzel as a secondary dry bag. As above it depends on what secondary use suits best. Theres always the MYOG route as well http://bearbone...

Across the Vaucluse

My wife and I have been lucky for the last few years to be able to spend a few weeks around this time of year in northern Provence, just south of Mont Ventoux. It’s generally a great area for both road and mountain biking as well as having plenty of scope and space for overnight trips. Whilst out ri...

Re: Cooking in a fire risk area

Mmm, this is me unfortunately, if it can be kicked over it will  .

I think you're right about relative risks, but i've just been doing a bit of reading and it seems the authorities may be more tolerant of gas stoves except in the highest risk times, when they ban everything including access.

Cooking in a fire risk area

I'm going to be out for a few days in an area with a frequently very high fire risk (obviously not Wales at the moment  ). Given that I really don't want to be responsible for setting fire to a large part of France, I've put my meths burner to one side and am going with carrying a fairly heft...

Re: to carry a backpack or not

Trying to pack for my first multiday trip (4-5 days). Really don't want to carry a backpack, but i'm struggling to get everything onto the bike. I'm sure I'm taking too much of something, but I can't see what. With very variable temperatures and lack of experience sourcing food, I think I've got too...

Re: WRT 2016... Entries open.

Well, after 4 winter events, I thought it was time to see Wales when it's warm and dry...it will be warm and dry won't it? I do hope so because I've convinced my wife to come along on that basis, so I could be in serious trouble if not :o Only doing the lite and probably not too many miles, but I'm ...

Re: Bach to Bach - thank you.

I'll add my thanks to Stu and Dee for organising such a good weekend with so much interesting weather, and perfect tea, toast and cake.
I'd like to think I've come back wiser, but as I caught myself thinking about routes and camping spots for next time, that would seem unlikely.

Re: OS Maps ride route length.

Mmm, yes that's what it's doing, going round twice. I've got no idea why though, but when I scroll along the elevation chart It's doing two laps. Well at least I know that the shorter distance is the right one then. Thanks

OS Maps ride route length.

Anyone have any idea why when I save a GPX I've plotted in OS Maps and then load it back into Bikehike to convert it into a TCX file, it doubles the length and climbing of the ride? It's the same if I take a known route from Bikehike into OSMaps and then back. It gave me a scare as it seemed I was s...

Re: Bach to Bach grid references ...

My current route so far is mostly minor roads and forestry, seems a bit dull but I'm guessing that at the moment anything other than surfaced tracks will be saturated and I really need to get back in time for cake. Probably just one checkpoint for me, but hats off to those of you going for the lot :)

Great, thanks for that. May just thin the stuff down a bit to get it flow better. Quite surprised that the rest of the seams didn't leak, just hope it works as well out in the real world.

Lunar Solo seam seal

Hi, I've just done a hose pipe test on my new Lunar Solo tent (not seam sealed), and it seems watertight except for some slight seepage from around the additional side tie outs. So how do I go about sealing this? It's not silnylon on the outside where it's stitched through the attachment, so I was i...

Lunar Solo from Ultra light Outdoor Gear, and a custom carbon pole from a nice man in Wales. First set up in the garden was reasonably successful :-)

Re: Could I die?

Have I got this right? If on my ford wading on the FF I'd slipped and got soaked and cold, I would been wiser to get as dry as possible and carry on towards civilisation rather than camp up and get into my sleeping bag, given that I would have little body warmth to get my bag up to temperature.

Snow, wind, homicidal drunken Irishmen, rubbish route choices, dead foxes, wading through ice cold January fords... what was not to like?
Thanks for a truly memorable ( for all the right reasons) weekend.
