Re: Garmin knowledge
Thanks for the tips - I don't think it is the Map SD card as it works OK when in the Edge 800 - not much of an IT person, but it appears the processor, or working memory in the old GPS just can't handle what's being asked of it…

Garmin knowledge
I am currently using a Garmin Oregon 300 (looks a lot like a Dakota), which I bought for general outdoor use in 2009 as I wanted something that use replaceable batteries - not an option with the Edge 705 I had then. I have experienced quite a few snags with it recently, particularly when trying to l...

Re: Ardent or Crossmark?
Same for me - Ardent F, Crossmark R, on the 26er. Bit heavier than Schwalbes (Ralph/Ron), but no probs with running tubeless and less trouble with punctures.

Re: How much gear?!
The British military recently adopted MTB as a recognised Adventurous Training activity, based on the self supported exped concept. Sounds promising, but sadly the implementation of this is based on outdated ideas, and a misunderstanding of the real requirements for multi day riding in the wildernes...

Re: The Wessex Ridgeway
Had a crack at this from East to West. Lasted 3 hours of the sort of sh1t you described before riding back to the van on the lanes! Some 'rides' are just not worth the misery!

Re: [WTD] Alpkit Fuel POD Size L
I have a large red fuel pod which is too big for my small frame. Only used for 6 days, could bring it to the BB200 if you are going.

Re: The post man's been ...
Found this in a box on my doorstep yesterday - very excited! Just need to put some 'bits' on: Drivetrain - mostly got (SRAM XX1 - need to swap the 175 cranks for 170) Gear cable set - need (probably Alligator I link) Brakes - got (Magura MT8 - hope they are more reliable after the last recall) Brake...

BB200 - rigid or bouncy fork?
The subject says it all; I don't know the area well, never mind the secret route, but can anybody 'in the know' provide some guidance on this basic choice? I will be riding a low-fat 29er with up to 100mm fork travel.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Bike Fit
I have totally bought into the rear cleat position for some time, based on recommends from some well regarded US cycling gurus, but, having come from a triathlon background, I am less convinced by the rear saddle positioning; this closes the 'hip angle', potentially fatiguing the legs for the run (o...

Re: Bike Fit
My experience of bike fits was not great, and as the process becomes more automated with systems like Retul, many so-called fitters have become less knowledgable, relying on what 'computer says', which is just averaging the numbers rather than focussing on an individuals needs. I am lucky enough to ...

How about late April / early May, as training for HT550, or will the trails be too soggy then?

Sorry about the faff this morning - need a new alarm clock! Hope it went well for the two of you - looked like...
