Re: New Alpkit Quilts

Ton, I've got a Cumulus quilt and Enlightened Equipment. I'm fairly broad and find that the cumulus one is a bit narrow.

Re: 3 days to France and back

I did this route the other week http://cycle.travel/map/journey/28570 . We took the road option a couple of times as we were on a mix of cx and road bikes. It's not technical riding. There's a bit of singletrack through the dunes etc and some gravel but mainly just a nice ride along the coast taking...

Re: The post man's been ...

Got myself a used Mk2 stooge frame. Was hoping on swapping everything over onto the new frame but there are a few bits I need to make it work. Will have to wait a few more days to finish the build....

Re: Bikepacking problem

Just do what makes you happy Gairy and who cares what people think or what you should be doing. I love the idea of bivvying and sleeping out under the stars but most of the trips I do are with a tent. I still think I "bike pack" as I take the bare minimum that I can get away with. Last wee...

I wouldn't worry too much about the weight limit. We've all got to clock off one day so you might as well punch out the final time card doing something you enjoy.

I think I've done quite well keeping off the bike. Although my stooge is looking at me longingly. . . . Must resist!
How are you getting on with the Stooge? I'm still tempted to get one!

I use a Thermarest neoair xlite. I like it for comfort and warmth but it's crinkly when you move about.
I'll get an exped one when I need to replace it.

For those that aren't taking a change of clothes, what clothing choices have you made? Baggies or bibs? Merino tops /undies?

Re: Bank Holiday - what you doin'?

My annoying little brother has decided to christen my nephew on Sunday so that's wiped out going away for the weekend. Wife's decided to work to gain flexibility later in the year. Going to spend some time with my lad encouraging him with his bike (he's 9) and getting his confidence up after "t...

Re: How far would you go?

As above, I rarely travel specifically to ride my bike anymore. My bikepacking trips are are generally multi day. I might go to Wales to have a weekend riding trail centres or whatever but that's about it and I'd never go for one day. Usually 3 days at least. I'm an hour from the Surrey hills but ne...

I've got the wildcat. It's well made, fit for purpose and you're supporting a small UK company and a forum member.
I think Wildcat were first to come up with the harness idea too (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong anyone!)

I've got a Montane fireball smock. Really light and really warm. Lives in my pack year-round and comes on every trip. Brilliant piece of kit.

Can't comment on the cycling part as I've not been there with a bike. Caves at Nerja are worth a visit. Fuengirola (spelling?) is nice. Benalmadena is good for a bit of nightlife and looking at expensive boats.

Flats on both mountain bikes.
Clipless on cx and road.

I'm not convinced that there's a huge difference in terms of efficiency and the benefits of not falling over when losing traction on the mtb makes it worthwhile for me.

got to be honest.........it is bloody horrible. i really dont understand the elevated on one side thing. and having the chainset hung on a stump makes the build pretty flexy....imho i rode a trek stache, when stood riding out of the saddle, the flex caused the tyre to rub the frame each pedal strok...

Re: Drop Bars - What's the Point?

I stuck some 660 Jones loops on my Straggler after busting my shoulder last month. It rides well, on and off road... a bit like a big BMX but also comfortable over distance. The downside... it looks super ugly, not helped by the tiny headtube/spacerstack, dropouts, plastic fork etc. and in the last...
