Re: Eskdalemuir/Craik Forest

In the Eskdalemuir/Craik area you have Greensykes and Dryfehead bothies, both very nice and not heavily used. If you parked in Eskdalemuir, you could ride in to Greensykes for the first night, next day ride over to Dryfehead via Samye Ling Monastery (tearoom), then on last day ride back to Eskdalemu...

Re: Solar Charging

For me, a dynamo hub would not provide enough power on an off road bikepacking trip. I've used a dynamo hub on road touring for a few years and it's fine if you aren't in mountainous terrain but if you are it won't cut the mustard. You spend hours going slowly uphill generating very little, and minu...

Re: Anyone 'carved' a cambium?

Yes I cut mine to the same sort of slot as on the official carved version, it did make it more comfortable but I still found it too uncomfortably unforgiving so gave up on it. Cutting the slot caused no adverse effects as far as I could tell. What was interesting though was to find that there is a l...

They don't seem to know how to sit in a packraft either, no wonder they capsized, seem to be either kneeling as in a Canadian canoe or sitting up on the rear of the raft.

Re: Are they allowed to do this in Scotland?

Bowhill seems to be becoming a bit stroppy about access. A while ago I cycled in the main driveway in order to go to the cafe for lunch, something I've done many times before without any problems. The guy at the booth who collects the fees from visitors to the house and for parking, wouldn't let me ...

Wow... I want a new down jacket, but holy sh*t they're expensive. Not if you go to Decathlon, I got one of these last september, wore it every evening of three week cycle tour and regularly since, liked it so much I bought another in orange colour, great value. https://www.decathlon.co.uk/full-down...

I was there last march.
No wood supplies near the bothy so best to carry some fuel in with you if possible.
I usually carry a couple of firelogs when going to bothies just in case theres no local wood.
