Re: Moving to Angus, any bears there?
 I had actually been wondering the best route to the Shielding if Mark Bothy  It's not so obvious on OS or aerials. I nearly blew a gasket going up all the way up Glen Lee last spring so stopped short of the saddle that was covered in snow. The track up was like riding through treacle, bu...

Rab are using it in sleeping bags as well:

Not sure how comfortable it would be next to skin, perhaps full thermals are a necessity.

Re: What lights?
You don't have to have both. I often just ride with a helmet light. Prefer it as it is always pointed where I'm looking rather than in the direction the bars are facing. Off-road I like to have a small light on the bars and main light on helmet, so when I am looking around at speed there I can see ...

Have you considered a metal G-hook buckle? I have one to replace a broken plastic cam buckle, did not require any sewing to attach.

https://i.imgur.com/oxzFVJu.jpeg Some bits were just too much gnarl and slippery... Embarrasing when people saw me with the road bike so I had to kinda joke it away... Didn't tell em too much that I was building character for Wales. That does look character building for rim brakes with 28mm tyres.

Where would be the fun in that? Alan would need to find a suitable replacementfatbikephil wrote: ↑Sun Sep 11, 2022 9:13 pmIt's good that someone is doing something to this route. Who knows they might even extend the track a bit further at some point
Sounds like a good excuse to go for a ride to check our collective memories.

In other route minutiae news, I noted that a new FB has gone in on the boggy path approaching Ben Alder cottage, bypassing the somewhat dubious telegraph pole bridge about a k along... A telegraph pole bridge? Cannot remember this, is it the one immediately before turning right to follow the fence?...

I thought it interesting that Josh Ibbett switched from dhb to Albion, and that they do a potential option ; quite spendy, but 100% recycled fibers and an orange option. I quite like the sound of all their stuff, at least from reading their website, ticks a load of ethical consumer boxes, which dhb...

Thermarest Prolite Plus
Had this thing for 14 years, probably put 250 nights' sleeping on it. Still going strong. Not the lightest or smallest, but comfortable.

I have only seen three snakes while out and about; two adders and one grass snake. The rumble of tyres caused the snakes to seek cover quickly.

"Racelite". Sounds like the marketing people have been getting involved Merely an attempt to highlight the weight and the potential end user Reg  If there was marketing involved, I'd have used words like 'adventure' 'aero' and 'gravel' Do aero poles make the wind move around ...

For early springtime I loosely tuck it around my 2 season, and if I get too warm I can wriggle it off without letting cold air into my bag. In warm weather by itself I strap it under my mattress and fully open the feet for temperature control; it replaces my Ghost Whisperer (evening jacket and full ...

Re: cumulus or other?
I have a Montbell Down Sleeping Wrap for really warm weather, it is light enough to take as a light camp blanket for spring trips or to add to a 2 season on cold nights. No temp rating for it though. Packs smaller than a 1 litre bottle, straps on the underside to attach to mattress, poppers and draw...

What was strange was that the track leading along the loch side had the feeling it was maintained - the edges of the uphill drainage ditch looked recently, as in the last couple of years, cut. Maybe the estate want to use it but aren't over keen on it getting too popular hence leaving the "bad...

Have you considered carrying compostible bags and a poo box, like snowholers do in the Cairngorms? A screw lid cylinder should fit into a large stemcell/fork bag. I find locating a good place to dig a deep hole more stressful than the act of disrobing.

I fitted a pair of Jones bars to my hardtail and rode it for the first time in five months. The multiple hand positions feel good and I stormed up a local climb with relative ease, I might need to move the bar ends higher. My cables are long enough to fit without being changed but I can't fit any b...
