Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...
Chater Lea.... The company was in Letchworth garden city. I always liked Chater Lea components, lovely stainless steel. As a kid I remember a few local guys having bikes with campagnolo components and Chater Lea . Both attractive in their own way. Quite heavy though, not for weight weenie's! The bui...

Re: Troubleshooting (Rohloff) help needed
Advise you convert the carrier, then the sprockets will be easy to replace. The first time I rotated a sprocket and fitted a new chain it felt rough through the pedals. I just replace the sprocket and chain now. The big bang happen every time I replaced the sprocket, caused a few grazed knuckles and c...

Re: The Acepac luggage I mentioned.
Unfortunately lost my lengthy 1st day report as I typed it... So here is summary. Acepac bar harness, large fuel tank, fat bottle bag. Today's ride 62miles ,33% off road. After adjusting straps during ride ,everything performed without drama...as it should! I think a d-widgit would prevent wear...

Re: Blown xt piston
WOW! :o Never seen that before! The damaged pistons were always caused by forcing pistons back without a pad in place on the pad side of the piston damaged with ehem.."incorrect tools"..., seen it on motorcycle caliper pistons especially the phenolic resin types, billet iirc. Maybe it may h...

Re: Blown xt piston
OMG! :o Do you have a photo? In all my years in the cycle, motorcycle and car trade,I have never seen or heard of a brake piston disintegrating. Even if it's out of warranty,I would try Shimano to see whether they will help you. When I worked at a few cycle shops they did assist with some st...

Re: Troubleshooting (Rohloff) help needed
Hmmmm....interesting. A couple of thoughts. When you changed the gear oil,did you clean and lube the chain also? I have found a near worn chain after it has been cleaned with the sprocket(s)and chainring(s) then relubed, does feel rougher through the pedals. (But easier/free-er) Maybe the gunge that...

Lack of faith is justified guys n gals. As humans ,we learn nothing! Some of us have a consience, the rest are just selfish scum. Am not surprised about the mega- tons of beach litter in one day. My regular cycling routes on and off road have changed from a clean ,litter free pleasure, to almost ove...

Feel your stress SR. I too woke in the early hours to the sound of running water. :o Discovered water dribbling through ceiling in spare bedroom, and also into study downstairs. Luckily, some furniture damage and small sections of plaster to repair, had to remove all floorboards in loft and the fibergl...

Weird stuff
Isn't it great there are some people who think outside the box.
The weird, innovative, practical, laughable, evolutionary.
Thought a thread to enjoy the above that is remotely related to bearboners ....after all... We are all individuals!!
Here goes.....

Re: ESI 6.75” grips
Surely, they can be degreased with carb cleaner or brake and clutch cleaner, they are not supposed to damage seals,o-rings etc.
You could try soapy water instead of gt85 or WD-40, squirt it in with a syringe, I have successfully used fairy liquid when a lube is not available.

Re: ESI 6.75” grips
As radars, to break the seal, use a spoke with End rounded off and threads Sharp peaks filed or ground down. Then feed both in at same time and squit in small bursts.

Aha! That will explain why.
I always wondered why there would be a post box across the road from a couple of houses in the middle of nowhere!
How wonderful it is to be enlightened!
