Re: BB200 2023

Both and others ended up on the wrong side of the river a few times in the worst section of river/Landover track. Bogtrotting the moorland was simple in comparison Yeah, that's how I ended up nuts high in the water. My gut tells me that this edition was the hardest out of the ones below, bu...

Re: BB200 2023

If that's a pic of someone waving, it was me.

I used you as an example of someone that seemed to be able to cycle a lot of it, whereas I just kept losing half my wheel into holes.

Re: BB200 2023

A key difference in the experience is a lot of faster riders would have been hitting the worst section in daylight which would have made a big difference as lines would have been a lot more obvious and water easier to cross. Trust me, it didn't help in the slightest. I had zero idea where I was sup...

Re: BB200 2023

You never did say if you got that 16.5 target you'd aimed for. I tend not to share any details until after the second weekend, but no, I didn't. I was just ahead of target at half way, but *** area redacted *** had taken my mojo and I lost all motivation to push myself after that. Spent the last 6 ...

Re: BB200 2023

The river crossings were cleanish water so you could see how deep they were, no such luck with the pools. I was racing a Landrover and also had a bunch of motorbikes coming the other way at points. No such luck with the clearness for me. Edit - Ride related generally, my lungs still feel terrible. ...

Re: BB200 2023

Well I did say that kms 75-125 would be "interesting" and so it proved. Whether I managed to get the right lines or was just lucky but none of the river crossings/evil brown pools got above knee height... Glad you got around buddy. If you're wondering who the nutter was in the car that wa...

Re: BB200 2023

Blimey that was ridiculously hard. I actually got through the bit that most people were moaning about OK. It was the flaming lakes / byways that caused the sense of humour failure. Pizza at Llanwrtyd Wells saved the day. 31 hrs and 1 minute! I am now broken... Excellent job sticking with it. That'l...

I don't know if it was just bad choices for crossings, but I got my nuts wet a couple of times.

I'm still not entirely sure how it's possible as I'm fairly certain I spent that long in *** areas redacted ***.
The bow waves through hub deep puddle after hub deep puddle after hub deep puddle would have been impressive
Hub deep? Some of them came up to the top of my wheels!

Shame about the rain tonight. Will make things much slower.

I gave up on the bike and headed up. Will sort in the morning.

06/01/22: 67.6kg
---- BIG GAP ----
22/09/2023: 61.9kg (-0.8kg)
29/09/2023: 61.3kg (-0.6kg)
06/09/2023: 59.9kg (-1.4kg)

Guess I did make ~60kg for BB200. Just need to do a set of "depletion sprints", and then it's time to shovel half a ton of carbs into my face.

Just weighed it, 1.7kg of food. That's enough to get me round without stopping, unless something goes horribly wrong.

Re: BB200 2023

That sounds bloody horrendous! It took me a couple of hours, but I did seriously regret my life choices. Had to do a lot of it standing up too, because unsurprisingly weighted vests aren't really made for riding in. I'm out with a DNS already. Lower back pain causing me to move about like a sloth f...

Re: BB200 2023

Given water isn't calories, it's definitely not cheating. In fact, if you want to actually be able to burn your fat stores effectively, you definitely need water. I appreciate you have different requirements on that front though. From memory, my longest fastest ride was 11 hours, wearing a 15kg weig...

Even the raciest racing snake could easily pull 10,000kcal from their fat stores. Though they probably wouldn't enjoy the experience (nor the speed).

Possibly. That said, I do a ton of fasted training and I rarely eat for the last couple of hours anyway as I usually can't face it.

Very good at just dropping my HR and going on fat reserves.

Re: BB200 2023

Riderdown: I calculated 1,200gms of carbs (for 20 hours moving) and taking 1,000 gms to get me to the stop about 3/4 of the way round. Plus emergency rations. About 800 for me. I'm sick of carrying too much and getting to the end with like 750g of food. Almost always grab a snack at a shop anyway w...

I don't know what's going on with my Evans order. A few pairs arrived but heard nothing on them on the remaining ones.

Also, ordered a new chain for the BB200 (and in plenty of time, amazingly)... it appears to have gone missing. Can't win.

Re: 2023 BB200/300 weights thread

I was think about only having stuff for fixing punctures, allen keys for the bolts on the bike a leatherman for everything else, spare chain quick links, a hanger, a pump, tube, spare pair of pads and a spare gear cable. Yeah, that's a sensible setup. I don't carry a gear cable any more simply beca...
