Talkytoaster - thumbs up
A new GPS head unit meant a chance to upgrade my Talkytoaster mapping. The detail and styling just keeps getting better. And Martin provides top-notch support; 5 minutes on Skype and I was up and running. If anyone's looking to move on from the Garmin base-maps, you'll find its a little money well s...

Re: Garmin Edge Touring
I've used an Edge Touring for many years now and, but for a couple of times when it's switched itself off, it's been reliable and easy to use. You won't be able to sync using Garmin Express which is incompatible with Chrome OS. Ref. https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?faq=Xt1fuHPdFN00qd7PYlkfe6. Nor c...

I think it's just the single lever, not a pair. And yes, it's expensive. But at least you now have a choice.

Apologies for the last two - I thought they were hydraulic too. The Force lever is definitely hydraulic.

For sale: Rohloff'd Surly ECR - new photos
With a gravelwanger and a serious VeloViewer habit, my ECR isn't getting the use it deserves. It's a lovely bike, has served me well on several JennRides and similar, and is totes comfy. It's also a bit niche. Hoping for £2250 but open to sensible offers. 2015 Surly ECR, size M, colour MRE Green Rea...

Re: SOS only PLB vs subscription service Satellite Communicator
Your instructor will be able to provide assistance but here are a few things to consider. You'll need a licence to operate a VHF marine radio - this is what the RYA course will give you. SRC = Short Range Certificate = VHF, (rather than the long-range HF ham radios used when crossing oceans). DSC = ...

The warm weather and lack of traffic meant this, yesterday, at Dubs reservoir on the way to Garburn Pass.

I've been using TT 1:50K Look'n'Feel British Isles on my Garmin 800 Touring for 5 years and it's never let me down. Martin was having a problem with privacy a while back, but £11 for a good product seems a fair price to me.

I'm happy with my G-One Speeds but it's easy to find their limit on wet grass and mud. Switched to G-One Bites for the winter but haven't ridden enough in this sub standard weather to comment usefully.

Re: Wanted: panniers to borrow or hire
No battery on the rack and I've fitted an Ortlieb QL3.1 (up to 14mm) on one side, so I'm pretty sure the QL2.1 mounts will fit. I think the Rixen & Kaul Vario Hooks will fit too - they go up to 16mm.

Wanted: panniers to borrow or hire
I’ve just persuaded my partner to join me on the Hebridean Way, starting mid-May. Now I’m looking for luggage. Her e-bike has a very thick-framed rack (14mm), so my existing Karrimor’s don’t fit. Does anyone have a pair of panniers I can borrow or hire?

Re: SOS only PLB vs subscription service Satellite Communicator
If you don't need tracking then a PLB is a good option. For a £200 quid one-off payment and no monthly fee you can keep it within reach and send out a global SOS. They're waterproof, have long shelf lives (5 years?), and can be used afloat and ashore. Downsides? They need to be manually activated, a...
