Re: Great, another bags/gear thread ;-)

Hi Metalheart, My 2p looking at your setup is that you could perhaps try to use the main triangle more fully. Google "Aiden Hardings bikepacking setup" for a picture showing a water bottle mounted vertically on the seatube allowing a larger main frame bag. I have shamelessly copied this id...

Salsa El Mariachi with a Rohloff and niner forks for me
reliable, comfortable, will do B+ albeit with a 2.8 rear
std bottom bracket, easy conversion to geared.
Why Salsa have phased it out is beyond me
Alternator dropouts are excellent

Re: igaro D1 usb charger.

Hi, My Sinewave cycles revolution has been faultless, having taken the case apart from curiousity everything is "potted" ( covered in set epoxy resin ) inside. Supposed to be waterproof I remember it was pricey though but I bought it when there weren't many alternatives, it would be good i...

Viewranger here too on a CAT ruggedized android smartphone. It's waterproof and I use the Finn rubber band mount thingy to attach it to the bars. 1:50k OS mapping of the whole of the UK is £70. I use it in airplane mode and get about 1 day and a half out of a charge. I use either a usb battery pack ...

Re: Gore Element Paclite jacket - any good?

I bought an Rab demand smock, On balance the best I've found but I find the hood a bit big ( I wear it under the helmet ) and the outside access chest pocket lets water in. I replaced it with a OMM Cypher smock, similar in that is made of event, inside pocket so can't let water in and smaller hood. ...

Re: 'alt' bar advice.

I like my Jones loops but found that adding Ergon GC1 grips really enhanced the comfort when compared to the ESI round grips I was using. The GC1 grip is designed specifically for swept back bars An unexpected but welcome bonus is that the grips give you a comfortable and secure hold when powering o...

Re: phone handlebar mount?

Another fan of the Finn handlebar mount here. It is a simple idea but well executed.
I now trust it to the point that I now don't worry about loosing the phone when bikepacking
a good match to a medium sized smartphone.
