Gobowen->Berwyns: Wayfarer & Dirt Bike School 13-15 April 2024
"I never go for a walk without my bike". Saturday https://www.instagram.com/p/C51GBcgoTi_/?igsh=YjZ3bXU2ZHpuaHM0 Train to Gobowen arrived 10:46, then ride past the national border stone and up to Wayfarer's memorial stone. Blimey it's windy; blowing me off course as I pinballed uphill on t...

Re: Is this 'bikepacking'?
We're not destroying, maaan... we're creating...uncool and unmonetisable names for "having a kip outdoors between bike rides" (that will instantly become cool because of their nebulousity :geek: ). But I like JamesO's "camping sportives": it's rooted in chummy reality, rather tha...

Re: Travelling across Europe quickly - how?
Prefer smallish cars... The ferry from Italy is another good one - it would make yhe journey far more interesting. Caterham 7 Nothing smaller or greener (if you buy a green one :wink: ). Makes every drive an adventure, particularly via mountain passes. The essence of TLS motoring: put the hood up a...

Re: packable fleece?
I had a minor revelation last November when cycling in The Lakes: my techno-baselayer top became damp and clammy, so I removed it and spent the rest of the weekend wearing the fleece direct to skin and was warm & comfortable all weekend :-bd. Back home (after a bit of rummaging in the cupboards)...

13/14 April: Berwyns from Chirk/Gobowen Railway Station
Evening All, I'm a bit more prepared for April BaM than I was for March. My general plan is to arrive at Chirk or Gobowen Station about 10:45 Saturday morning then pedal westwards, past the Wayfarer memorial, to Corwen or Cynwyd for dinner & bivi (both villages have a pub and a shop). Sunday: so...

https://www.instagram.com/p/C5KwAueoScM/?igsh=MTg1MDNiY3Yybndycw== Meteorological optimism ( "weather will be better at the end of March") and general procrastination resulted in a last-minute Utility BaM in the local woods under my favourite Christmas tree :roll: . Despite that, it was a...

Re: What are you drinking now?
Haven't a clue, but the Black Lion in Leighton Buzzard just introduced me to the local delicacy that is...pickled egg squished up in a bag of cheese and onion crisps... :shock: So wrong...but ooohhh: soooo right :oops: I blame the dog: he kept dragging us into pubs...it's taken 5 hours to walk 2 mil...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
We need a special triplicate form to fill in. Pink copy sent to BB Towers for approval, blue copy to Phil for the files, yellow copy retained by the prospective BaMee and to be made available for perusal upon request by the BaM Inspectors during said iffy bivvy. Some of the more remote spots would ...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
Here's one for the BaM lawyers... Was pondering last night, as I'm about to go on call on Wednesday and am feeling a bit rubbish; it'll be last chance saloon when I get off. Can I ride my bike on the rollers, pitch the tent outside my garden, on someone else's land (paddocks), then ride my bike on ...

It reads like the author no longer enjoys long-distance events, so should just give them up. It doesn't really matter and nobody really cares :lol: . Perhaps it's time for a different type of challenge :wink: . https://bikepacking.com/plog/fantastically-plastic-free/ https://bikepacking.com/plan/gui...
