Re: Todays ride
A bit of searching out new things around us and trying (but failing) to get the ride done before the rain started  Dropped down into the valley to ride in to town along the Leeds-Liverpool canal, stopped to look at the memorial to a Polish aircrew who crashed here during WW2 http://www.raf.mod....

Re: Stove Recommendations
The Jetboil is pretty big for a stove, something you'll notice when packing. A minimal gas stove like the Alpkit Kraku https://www.alpkit.com/products/kraku (it's one of several very similar rebranded stoves so you should be able to find one locally as well) plus one of the smallest gas canisters wi...

I'm only 31, so can't compete with you old boys  Although saying that, Ian thought I was in my 40's  It's the beard; makes you look old(er) and wise(r) :ugeek: Oldest piece of kit is my MSR XGK-II stove; that goes back to the very early nighties. It'll be out to use for Rovaniemi n...

Re: Off topic: A BearBones lifestyle and minimalism.
When I was young (early to mid twenties) I tried to ensure that what I *needed* fitted in to a rucksack. Can't remember the reason now but I doubt that the emotional and physical baggage accumulated over the intervening years would let me do it now. A few years ago I had a climbing accident and coul...

So who was it?
Feeling lazy this morning I got the train to work. Pulling in to Bingley station there's a rider and bike with a full set of seat, frame, handlebar bags waiting to get on. I was in a different carriage so didn't get to chat.
Anyone from on here?

Mostly +1 to what others have said. Lights: having them mounted ready for use is (IME) preferable. It just saves faffing around in ever dimming light. If the lights are all-in-one units then that's easy but if they've an external battery then put the battery in the bottom of one of the stem cells wi...

I've a Troll windproof/showerproof smock from about 1984 (or whenever Rock and Run first opened their doors in Ambleside), used it for climbing, running and biking.

A foot in both camps here. I've a Garmin 510 for the roadie stuff and local rides where I really don't need a map plus this handles all the willy waving sensors you can wave a, err, stick at so I can do the Straavaaa thing  Battery life is somewhere between 12 & 16hrs, I used to use it ...

Re: Clement Xplor MSO tubeless? Anyone?
Tubeless can be frustrating - did three Bontrager XR3s on to Hope XC rims without problems, the fourth one on to same rim was anything but easy and needed a compressor. Everything including rim tape was identical but it really didn't want to seat.

The only bivy bag that I've found so far that is big enough for Exped inflatable mat, sleeping bag, quilt *and* me is the Alpkit Hunka XL. For summer use then the standard sized bivy bags like the Hunka, the Ascent, etc are fine. I'm 180cm and 83Kg so not small but not big either.

Cleaning and drying two sets of bikepacking harnesses and bags. Cleaning two bikes. Drying out one set of bivy kit - my wife bivvied on the YD200 whereas I rode through - the thunderstorm was "interesting" apparently! Cleaning out the gutters on the house and associated drains - nice :| Ne...

Re: BB Forum really slow?
Just noticed something - if I refresh a forum or the general index and there's no new messages then things are quick. If there's even one new message then it's slow. So (possibly maybe) it's something to do with how the forum software is managing what threads we have viewed.

Stu, is there a plugin/add-on for the forum software that could automatically resize images when people upload them? It means that you are still hosting the images though.

Hmm, last night's rain felt a bit cooler than of late  Not had any frosts yet but we aren't in a hollow like you are Stu. Things are definitely starting to turn though, some of the bracken higher up in the Dales is turning brown already yet the blackberries outside the house are only just star...

Re: Yorkshire Dales 200
Just got back. Finished in 14:25, first back was Stu Cowperthwaite in 12:05 so pleased with that. Was very warm this AM, clouded over this afternoon. Had some drizzle when leaving Hawes at 1800 but it soon stopped and I didn't have any more rain until dropping off Barden Moor very near the end which...

Just in case - if you're coming past Leeds then it's the Festival this weekend. Might have an effect on the traffic  Nah, most of those on the train this morning who were obviously going to the festival didn't look old enough to have passed their test  Actually it was on the news this A...

As well as the YD200 we are going to Kilnsey show. OK, it's on the Tuesday rather than the BH weekend proper but we've been living here nearly 16yrs and still never been to it. Will be riding to it of course - costs from £5 to £15 to park your car :o As for Ikea - I always want to play in that multi...

Not looking too bad for tomorrow, the forecast rain now seems to be holding off until the early hours of Sunday AM http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2637702?day=1 . We've had a bit of rain yesterday but the ground is still firm and it's sunny and breezy today, only likely boggy spots will be Boss Moor ar...

That will be an Irish Thursday  If I could afford it, I would head out earlier so you can get your bike setup and gauge the area and conditions. On my last trip, I landed Thursday and spent Friday seeing Father Christmas, eating and being in the pre race meet (2-2 hours), so only spent ten mi...

It's been a bit variable at home, in particular last night when a opening a post or going back to the main page could take a minute. Could be any number of things and be anywhere in the long line of wires between my computer and the BB elves.
