Re: Lakeland 200 ITT
I did think this, but (spoiler alert) since he didnt get it, its doesnt really matter! I can tell you now that if during my 300ITT attempt i had a film crew dotted around the route, it would be a huge mental lift and security blanket which would potentially offer a gain. Or perhaps playing devil's ...

Re: Lakeland 200 ITT
The selfsupported site was redesigned a couple of years ago but hasn’t been updated for a while. Not sure if Steve is still in charge of it since most of the updates were done by Colin (Scotroutes) who seems to have disappeared from the scene as I’ve not seen any posts from him on any of the forums ...

That diversion looks the same as the one that Javi did on his ride.

Just seen that Javi did the Badger Divide and posted a photo of a locked gate "due to a hole in a bridge" - https://www.strava.com/activities/10171952069 from the trace it looks like he headed back down to Loch Rannoch then came back up through the forest.

I'd tend to agree, but I think the blue badge is a nice "consolation prize" for someone missing out on the black badge (which could easily happen due to mechanicals, etc). It's also a good target for someone who absolutely needs a nap and is not able to carry on through the night. I think...

Re: Dealing with the damp
Can't help with the eczema, not had any experience of it. Condensation is a tricky one as there's a lot of variables. Sometimes the air is simply too humid to avoid it but location, ground cover, even soil type have a bearing on what you'll experience. Generally a camp under some sort of cover, whet...

As Reg says it's a case of "Toughen up princess" Once you get into multi-day wet rides there's no practical way of carrying enough dry clothes for each day, plus of course those dry clothes will just get wet anyway. Much worse at this time of year when the cooler temps mean the wet ...

Re: New bike day (2 years in the waiting) Alhamdulillah!
Shaf, there are standard tables for matching the width of the tyre to the rim width. Do a search for ETRTO charts. I've seen figures suggesting tyre to rim width ideal ratio of 1.8 - 1 so a 35mm rim's best fit is: 35 * 1.8 = 63mm; 63/25.4 = 2.48" Of course then you need to ensure that such a ty...

Re: HT550 - Steve Bate's winter attempt
I did think it might have been that one but there's another bridge you cross on the same burn a km or so later that it could have been. From memory unless there's been a lot of rain it's not a big flow but has steep banks, certainly on the forestry side. A bit awkward since it's on the boundary betw...

Always pleased to help Reg  Winter Event : a similar format to the Welsh Ride Thing but in "winter" which is why it's called "The Winter Event" and not "The slighly wet and cold event" which applies to the rest of the year in Wales, where Stu sends you a list of G...

Taking videos something I really enjoy and it takes an awful lot of time. At least for me (and I'm not the type that stages shots or goes around with a drone). I don't know how really fast people do it. Having now done a couple of these events it really makes me wonder if ultras are for me, as ther...

I've a Borah Gear bivy bag, actually we've each got one. They're a US "cottage" company but will ship here (might need to check post brexit). He'll do custom work to a point for free. The zips on ours go across the top and about halfway down one side so much easier to get in and out of. Th...

I can't remember if Stu mentioned it on here or it was a comment at the Community Centre but he'd been fending off people who hadn't camped before amongst other things. Maybe the "lack of inclusivity" is coming from people who've heard "no" for the first time and it's the attack ...

Re: TPU 20ish litre drybags
The Revelate bags are pretty sturdy. I've the Saltyroll for the front harness, it's not quite the ballistic nylon used by the likes of Ortlieb for their panniers but it's not far off. Don't know if they do anything similar for rear racks. Might be worth checking caving suppliers as roll top bags in ...
