Re: Which extra would keep me warmer?

The blanket is likely to keep you warmer Shawn. A bivvy is great outside because it keeps the wind off but it offers little thermal advantage otherwise. A blanket can also keep you warm while eating, reading, whatever and help stop you from getting cold before climbing into your bag. I had reasonab...

Re: Which extra would keep me warmer?

Some cheese, well any fatty food, eaten about 30-60mins before you go to bed. I'd always be taking some form of insulating mat to a bothy. The only one I've visited that's had any form of "bedding" was An Cladach on Islay where all the bunks had thermarests  Looking for something m...

Which extra would keep me warmer?

In a bothy in a sleeping bag if I am cold use a bivvy bag aswell (already have) use a blanket over the top (heavier, bulkier and don't have) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Snugpak-Jungle-Blanket-Olive-Insulated-travel-Bushcraft/273796601929?epid=1678595346&hash=item3fbf8c9849:g:qnAAAOSwk35brh3j Expe...

Looks great but far far too wide for me! I'd want 60mm off each end.

Re: Folding bikes

This post has just reminded me how much I like the space frame Moultons - anyone got one. How could you not love one of these? https://www.cyclesense.co.uk/smsimg/144/16741-54603-full-double-pylon-144.jpg Yeah there was one on a Midsomer Murders* rerun the other day, I commented on how cool it was ...

Re: Folding bikes

Could you put drops (midge) on a Brompton and it still fold reasonably? Planning a camper van sabbatical next year and taking a full size bike will be tricky I can’t see that working as the bars need to be flat in one plane in order to fold. I have the flat S bar, which gives a much more forward sp...

Re: 26 isn’t dead....is it?

It's still alive on the back of my bike just not the front.

Given I can still get some 27x1 14 tyres for my old road bike I don't think we need to panic just choice will diminish over time and new tyres probably won't appear.

I still ride a cyclo cross bike, none of this rack and mudguard mount nonsense they have nowdays

Re: Wtb riddlers

I tried a Riddler 37 on the rear and found it wore pretty fast on 50:50 type terrain. Went back to a Nano which I find wears better and I just prefer. In fact I've never worn a Nano right down as I have ripped the sidewall first (3 tyres gone this way) when they were getting worn...actually that is ...

Dryfehead has a long drop just up the track now apparently. Definetly quieter as more of a hike in.

The current open access model is doomed You may well be right but whats the answer? Locking them isn't going to be practical and even if you did the party goers would just break in. Reading bothy log books has become depressing with the maintenance officer making ever more desperate pleas for peopl...

Sadly they have become the destination rather than part of the journey. I've only had one actual bad experience at a bothy but had to clean up after a few more. Sadly I find it's putting me off using one now just in case...though I am in a massive bikepacking lack of mojo anyway :???: I ended up lea...

Not sure yet Mike, thinking Over Phawhope Tuesday then meander back over the top of Glentress and through The Pentlands. Going to look at bikehike tonight.
I stay in Ettrickbridge now. I'll keep an eye out for you in the valley!

I wouldn't that is there to let the inevitable water ingress out

Personally never found it a bother on my mtb though I have a proper bottom bracket (un53) which laughs at water

I'll often stop to break up fire rings and try and cover things up a bit and tidy up in the hope it won't encourage people, my wife thinks this is odd. If it's cold and I fan...
