Re: Bunyan Velo 6

I'd never seen it in print. He offers PDFs for $5, and I have seen folks use pro printer shops to print out very fancy paper copies, but I think it's been on line only since the start.

Bar tape

What do drop bar users use for bar tape on their off road bars? I just slapped on some cheap black cotton tape so I could get my build done, but now that I've ridden on it for a while,I'm wondering what others use/ suggest.

Re: Milk for tea when bivvying

In the next issue of “A Nice Cup Of Tea And A Sit-Down” there really needs to be a “tea and bikepacking” chapter. It's a hugely complex subject to be honest. Now, who’s for a thread about biscuits? Where do we start with this thread- best for taste or best packaging to keep them intact? I'm all in ...

Re: Anything Cages- bags

Just a regular 5 L round dry bag. I've seen photos of the Salsa dry bag made to fit it as well as some other accessory bags made to fit the cages and they all seem to cost 2-3 times what a basic dry bag costs.

Re: Iceland

We went last week of August into the first bit of September. Had good weather for the most part. Starting to get cold (rather then just cool) at night by the end of the trip. Our trip looped back to Selfoss at the end and the number of campers was much lower then it was at the start of the trip.

Re: Iceland

We did version 1 about a year and a half ago. Had a fantastic time. Mix of paved roads and gravel roads. Took advantage of the bus system to use one day that was full on storming to go eastward to the Westman islands. Altered the direction of travel to allow for wind direction. In the SW you could g...

Re: Coffee makers

I know you don't want to hear it but, the Starbucks Via packets are great. We used them on our last trip to Iceland and my wife (who loves a coffee in the morning) found them more then acceptable. They also pack up small, so once they are used, the amount of stuff to pack out is very small. http://a...

Re: Dynamo hubs - not SP/exposure

I've used a SON hub for a bit over 10 years on an audax bike with no issues. Some complain about the prong connectors being tough to take on and off, but for me it was always pretty simple.

Re: Why don't you buy bike magazines?

I'd rather go off the suggestions from forum's like this one for my gear reviews. For bike packers, the variety of reviews of gear would be like putting singletrack with TGO I think. I like the stories and photos from Bunyan Velo and Sidetracked. Living in the US makes Sidetracked's paper edition re...

Re: Bothies on the BBC

I checked the you tube link at lunch today- success. Got home tonight, made supper and turned on the computer, hit the link and
"video removed by the user" Me thinks the BBC came down on someone for copyright.

Guess I've have to figure out how to break into iplayer from the US.

I have a customer in the UK that I talk to every other day or so. His Fed Ex deliveries are running a day or two slower then normal due to "lack of staffing at depots " . They didn't have an answer when he asked them if the arrival of December caught them off guard this year in terms of hi...

Re: What grease repack my bearings with.

We used to use boat trailer grease to repack bearings in hubs and BB's back in the cup and cone days of hearings. Cheaper it seemed at the time then bike specific grease and lasted through BC winters which sound the same as The UK- lots of rain and muck
