Re: TDR 2017

from Adventure Syndicate instagram Rickie and Lee have now made it to Grants, 376 miles from the end of the Tour Divide, only to receive some bad news - Rickie has been disqualified from the race, after accepting a lift from her overnight host in Como back up to the top of Boreas Pass (approximately...

Re: Staying fresh

+ 1 on leaving travel clothes with the bike box. Even if you've worn them on the way to Iceland, when you put them back on at the end of the trip, they'll feel so fresh. Bring some big zip loc's to put any clothes that seem a bit "ripe" into for the return trip home.

Re: Time Management

I've guess I've been lucky and chosen well. Yep, that has a lot to do with time management with the spouse. My wife and I prioritize work outs/adventure. No kids and just two cats mean it is a lot easier then those of you with little ones. We (well actually Mrs Nomad) does a bunch of cooking...

With flared drops, I've not had any issues with knees striking bars. I've used bar end shifters on my Mtb and touring bikes for 20 + years- love them

Anyone go to Bespoke this year

Anyone make the trek to Bespoke this year? I haven't seen any posts about it (and apologies if I missed them) and I was surprised not to hear anything about it.

Re: Christmas plans

No family nearby, so we're working on a triathlon a day- a 1/2 hr swim, 1/2hr at least bike ride and a 1/2 hr walk every day between Christmas Eve and New Years. We'll indulge in some treats , but otherwise just enjoy some quiet time

Re: Dear God make it stop!

We noticed the Black Friday vs Boxing day comparison when we moved to the US from Canada via OZ. No sales after Christmas, but tons of sales before Christmas here in the US. Never made sense to me. I'd get $$ for Christmas and then go out after Christmas and spend it on the stuff that no one got me-...

Re: 2017 plans

Starting to make 2017 plans. Would any one up in Scotland have a suggestion about a nice town one could base themselves out of for a week? Ideally a range of road and off road options leading from town, but a big enough town to have some dinner options and cake options during/post ride? Wife is inte...

Re: Vancouver to San Francisco

I've done the Oregon coast twice- once just doing the Oregon part and once riding from Vancouver down to Oregon and then getting a lift home at the OR/CA border. I've driven south of OR later on. I really liked the ride from Vancouver south to OR- we would take the ferry to Port Townsend and then ri...

Re: Bank Holiday - what you doin'?

The missus is off to Spain for work on the Saturday of the long weekend, so I'm hoping the weather holds and I can get out at least Sunday/Monday. Flight leaves at noon, so I figure Saturday afternoon can be spent doing the gardening I promised would be done before she gets home.

Re: oddest place you've bivvied?

On a brevet on Vancouver Island in 2009, we got into Campbell River (biggest of the small towns on that end of the island) around 2 in the morning. Needed to be up at around 6 to make it back to the finish with time. Too cheap to get a hotel, although there was a couple there. So we found a bank wit...

Re: Gas canisters in the USA?

I don't recall seeing much in the way of non threaded canisters here in the US. Screw on type are all around- as said before, if you can't find an outdoors store, hardware stores tend to carry the small screw on ones for blow torches.

First off road ride in awhile. Just a 1/2 hour at a new trail system near work. Not too technical, but not silly simple either. A great way to start the day.
