Re: For the Pack Raft curious

@ John Climber Years back (around 2004-2006) I worked for Feathercraft folding kayaks in Vancouver Canada. We were contracted to make the Alpacka Rafts for them. Sheri would come into town every 4 months or so for a week and work on design ideas and such with my boss. Being into sea kayaks and MTB's...

Alt Bar comparison

Found this site this morning
http://cmartens.ca/projects/bar-charts/v2/

He's working on getting more measurements and drawings from the different manufacturers so you can overlay all of the different bars to see the differences.

Re: Until I saw the price ...

Yikkes!! For all the bikepacking events that charge just a basic fee, this is outrageous. And he lists them as "sale"- what was full pop on those!

Re: Yet again - Leave No Trace.

I used to do a lot of sea kayaking out in British Columbia. The company I worked for had a retail store and a kayaking school. We'd teach everything from the basics of paddling up to expedition skill level stuff. The folks that ran the courses were all LNT types who had studied under the NOLS folks ...

To be fair, the author of the article is German and she and her partner are running a blog and instagram feed of their travels, thus the electronics and camera gear being "essential". I suspect for a lot of us, the camera on their phone or a small mirrorless model would be all we'd need.

October in the Peak District/Yorkshire

My wife has a conference in Manchester in late September of this year and we're looking to tack on some holidays to it. (20th wedding anniversary) We'd like to do the Way of the Roses C2C ride and she was wondering about weather that time of year? We live in the US (don't ask why, it's a long convol...

We saw this in Washington DC in the early summer. Phil Keogan was there to take questions afterwards. Great film, very well presented and a great story about a little known part of cycling history.

Re: Buying gear from UK

If they ship via post, your odds of being charged anything are slim. Less then $1000 and you probably won't see a bill. If you ship via a courier company, then you are probably going to see a bill for customs/duties/taxes etc

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.

Wife suggested we get tickets for sporting event in town tonight. I laughed it off as being too much $$$. Looked into it and it was $$, but not $$$$ and she was keen to go. So I booked the tickets on line and we're off to it tonight by train. Wife likes sports if she can see them in person. Hates to...

Re: The price of stuff.

I also wonder how much price depends on how many hands have to get a hold of a product? I work in a field that ships all over the world to different distributors and resellers and it is amazing how much a price can go up depending on how far it has to go, how bulky it is to ship and how many hands t...

They go solo in four stretches, city to city, so not a relay like RAAM. More of a shorter bike packing experience.

Yep,Yvon Chouinard at Patagonia even wrote a book on simpler fly fishing . One of the perks of owing a company like that is you can indulge your hobbies like that. Apparently he fly fishes more these days then climbs as it still gets him out in the wilderness, but without the wear and tear on the bo...

Re: Indian Pacific Wheel Race

Watched it the other day and am still digesting it all. I agree with Richard that it does not do justice to the distances covered. One thing I found interesting was, watching the scenes in NSW, where Mike and Kristof meet at night, they didn't seem to have any reflective gear on. They just had a bli...
