Re: 2017 - Expedition bikepacking trip - Do you fancy that?

Looking at the spot map of coverage- http://www.findmespot.com/en/index.php?cid=108 quite interesting where Spot transmitters do not cover- southern Africa, a good part of India and Nepal and far southern South America. Throw in the caveat that the transmitters don't work well in caves or dense wood...

Re: 'Adventure' reading list

The Big Open by RIck Ridgeway- tale of him and a couple of other climber/adventurer types hauling carts into a remote part of Tibet looking for the breeding ground of a rare antelope. Very out there in terms of any chance of rescue or such. Everest- Kangshung face by Stephen Veanables- For the climb...

Re: C'mon what did 'he' bring you?

Picked up new helmets on Christmas eve for me and Mrs nomad. On sale and then 15% off the sale price made it tough to resist. Bell helmets of course  Christmas day was nice and warm , so while the trails here a bit too muddy to ride, we got out for a 100 km road ride. Nice quiet supper with ne...

Re: Cycling highlight of the year

Two weeks of cycling in Iceland in late August/ early September with my wife was the highlight of the year.
Didn't do anything "epic" just some lovely touring on quiet roads.
Good news was that the Mrs loved the tour and wants to do more non road tours next year!

Hey Stu,

Any chance of a book review when you're done? Looks like an interesting book.

Re: Kit you lusted after back in the day?

The original Giro helmet. They looked so cool after having a bulky bell helmet. Was in Hawaii shortly before they hit the market and hit a couple bike shops trying to get my mitts on one. No luck. Funny thing is, I don't seem to fit Giro helmets. Every time I need a new helmet, I try one of their mo...

Re: How long could you do it for?

So long as I'm allowed to stop in a pub once in a while, I could go for a while in the UK  I think starting in the spring and going until the late fall, I could travel through most of the UK easily. I think the winter months could be tough with the cold and darkness, but then that is what the ...

Re: How did you get into riding?

I suppose I was lucky. I grew up in British Columbia, Canada, getting into bikes in the mid 80's just as mountain bikes were coming up from California. I got a Rocky Mountain hammer when I started working at a small bike shop in 88. Beat it up around Vancouver and up in Whistler before "North S...

Re: Critique my kit thoughts

+1 on a down bag. My wife and I used to sea kayak a lot. We used down bags in dry bags, never an issue. We took down bags on our Iceland cycle trip this summer and made sure we had them very well secured in dry bags and never had an issue with them getting wet.
