Re: Good winter (baggy) cycling pants: any thoughts

I have a pair of Endura knee warmers that I use during the winter. If it looks like it's going below zero, then I'll throw on an old pair of Ron Hill Tracksters too. These look similar, if not quite the same as the ones I have...

Re: Bivvy a month 2020.

Popped out for my February BaM last night, ended up in another bird hide. A full write up will be on my blog at some point in the next few days. Here's the summary... I was much warmer this time round, even with a breeze blowing though the hide, as it didn't have a door (yes, the blue bits are holes...

I don't particularly like porridge, much prefer overnight oats, but will give it a go in the name of warming up. 👍

I make up my own "adventure" porridge Porridge - 60g / 226 kcal nuts - 20g / 131 kcal fruit - 40g / 120 kcal dried milk - 15g / 50 kcal Totals 135g / 527 kcal I whizz it all in a blender (breaks up the oats and makes them quicker to rehydrate). Then stick it in a ziplock/P&S bag, then...

Re: Todays ride

Was going to cycle commute to work today, but my front light had other ideas. Plugged it in, it came on, then as I wheeled the bike down the drive it went off every time the bike hit a bump. Then it just stopped working unless I hit it, when it would just flash, then go off again. So back into the h...

Fitted some Tannus Armour under the rear tyre. Hopefully this will reduce the number of rear wheel punctures. If it goes well, I might consider one for the front too.

Well that was fun. :-bd Really wild night glad I used a bivvy (academic really as I only have a bivvy bag at present). A tent would have been gone. It took me all afternoon to post that, rewrote it about seven times, quite glad I asked now! 🤣 Based on the glowing recommendations, I think I'll have to take a closer look at the DownMat Lite 5 M.

Thanks everyone, it's seriously appreciated.

I've been lucky to cycle alongside hunting barn owls on a few occasions. Sometimes on early morning rides, sometimes late at night on the way home from work, when I used to cycle commute. No matter how bad the day, or the ride, cycling with a barn owl has never failed to raise my spirits and make me...

Ooooo, just thought of another one. Spent a weekend rock climbing around Reiff on the West coast of Scotland. Camped the night at the local campsite by the beach, cracking sunset, good times. Edit: Woke up this morning and realised that I'd totally forgotten the best one ever. That's the North face ...

Sleep Systems

It's payday, so obviously I've spent too much time pondering what to spend my meagre free cash on. After last weekends BaM, I'd decided to upgrade my sleeping mat, as I felt it was the weakest link. I never did find that Ultralight Thermarest comfy, so I'm not surprised it's first on the chopping bl...

Probably the night I slept on top of Aonach Beag in the early Nineties. I'd got the train from Inverkeithing to Fort William, via Edinburgh and Glasgow. Walked up the Ben, while the fell race was on, then round the Càrn Mòr Dearg Arête to the summit, before heading to Aonach Beag. Woke up to a tempe...

K1100T, have you tried All Terrain Cycles ? I visited there briefly early this morning (after changing search provider) and baulked at the price. Ok thanks all for the responses. But I am more interested in the PODSCACS gear itself: Is it sturdy? Is it waterproof? Any typical issues to look out for with the gear? More specifically the saddlebag. The two bits I've bought have both been sturdy and totally waterproof. Just expect all the straps...

I asked about 700c slop tyres on STW only the other day. The Smart Sam was one of the recommendations, and given you can pick them up for less than £20 online, I'm interested. I need something that will give me some actual traction in the mud, rather than my rear wheel sitting and spinning. but........
