Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
In other, not cheery, news, I heard they were closing the Welshpool base of Air Ambulance, combining it with Caernarvon, and basing it somewhere on the north coast instead. Rumour or......? What with the state of national services these days, wouldn't be surprised if you now get put through to 111 i...

One for the Iceland afficionados....... I notice that on this day 5 years ago, Dick Phillips passed away. One of the foremost UK experts on Iceland, a keen walker he was also a member of the Rough Stuff Fellowship, so very much "one of us". In fact he was a founder member of RSF. In 1958, ...

Nah - he told us on April 16th at 7:19pm. Without JC's forecast there wouldn't be any WRT weather .

Re: Wildlife
A naughty animal has burrowed a hole in our lawn. Maybe a worm on steroids. No, it'll be a bee. Not as impressive as buzzards or whatever but we'd be stuffed without them so I've installed a 24 hour security cordon round it.

Biked/trained/biked to my chum's then over to the young persons popular music concert, although didn't have to hide the bike under the stairs this time. I'd like to call him Joe Strimmer, as befits my older outlook on life these days and increased indulgence in futile activities. Topper Lawnedger wa...

Off we go. 1degC tonight apparently. Bit nippy for April here. Wonder if we'll get another -4 on WRT. Note handy 'poppadom deck'.

Go on then.... Just packed the horse for a trip over to my chum Jezzer, with whom I shall attend "London Calling" The Clash tribute band at Bedford Esquires, then, in the best gigpacking tradition (3rd this year), kip out afterwards. Might have a curry and a beer. So that should be jolly. ...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
On my various wanderings one day I'd like to get off the train by mistake at a station and find out I'd ended up at Buggleskelly Halt. Although it's not a really a halt, because part of the definition of a halt is "unstaffed and no goods facilities". Obviously Buggleskelly was staffed (inc...

Is Ashey technically a Halt as it's a request stop? https://safety.networkrail.co.uk/jargon-buster/halt-or-station-halt/ "A railway station with minimal facilities where trains will usually stop only on request". Guess NR should know as they own them (although not Ashey any longer presuma...

Considering that here today we've had bright sunshine, high winds, heavy rain, more sunshine, hail, and thunderstorms, all between 9am and 5pm, I shall look out of my window on May 4th and forecast "ah right, that's the WRT weather then" .

I promise you whichever group you choose you'll probably dislike us for a bit of it, you'll be our best mates for some bits, you'll be ambivulous towards us for the other bits. At the end of the weekend you'll be happy to have done some great riding in Wales and may even want to come back again. Go...

Re: Is this 'bikepacking'?
Not sure that argument stacks up camping...... precise....... Ah well, but is "camping" a precise term? In our frame of reference I don't think it is. Have a look at Bivvy a Month to see the myriad ways we do "Bearbones Bikepacking". If (elitism alert) we're not doing "bike...

Re: Is this 'bikepacking'?
In all of these variations bikes are involved and packing (and presumably unpacking) is involved. When people first started travelling on bikes and stopping overnight, if they had called it 'bikepacking' - because it involved bikes and [un]packing as above - and the term 'cycle touring' had never be...

Re: Is this 'bikepacking'?
bikepacking is similar to wave theory. Its state depends on the observer Best not to observe it because the whole thing would collapse into a specific state and then we'd understand exactly what it is  . I'd rather not know. In fact there would be a definite point, which rather spoils the who...

As well as Karl and Cat's expert guiding, Lonely Hearters and Lost Souls also have the 'Ride With Reg' LHC option  . Having run some LHC's a few years ago I felt it's time to 'give something back' again. I'm particularly keen to encourage WRT first-timers and non-Boners but all welcome if the...

Entirely coincidentally, I've just bought some E-Clips. Quite impressed. They automatically self-disengage when they detect a crash occurring so I can dismount easily. Whatever will they E- next I wonder.
