You could indeed substitute with a longer spoke nipple. Though as DT Swiss give exact length rather than plus/minus 1mm it's wise to just use the reccomended. Could make dishing a little more awkward too.

I've contemplated a high vis belt before today but never tried it. Just wonder if it would wear away at the jacket. It is made from barely anything so it's super fragile.

I do use two Bontrager Flare lights and also a Cateye helmet light too.
