I could use one of my Raleigh burners hanging up in my workshop?
Plenty of attachment points on the crossbar for all my lights and GPS. Skyways for an end to broken wheels and knobbly tyres, what more could you want?

Re: Daventry area Nov 9th/10th...
Hey Guys,
I am going to swerve this one, sorry but I reckon it's going to be horrific out there! I went out last weekend and it took me nearly an hour to go 300M of the worst sticky mud.
Definitely when its more normal out there.

Hi Reg et al.
I am in Milton Keynes, well Cranfield, I don't remember any traffic cones, so can't be me!
What sort of distance were you thinking? I would avoid the Grand Union as it's a puncture fest.

Re: Water bottle cages
Don't worry all.
In true cheapskate fashion, I have made some rubber bands out of an old inner tube and these simply attach to the cage and stretch over the neck.
I have picked the bike up by the bottle so looks to be OK.
But thanks for all your ideas.

Re: Water bottle cages
Thanks for all the suggestions Maybe I should mention I have a rigid bike. I have Lezyne ones at present and they are pretty rubbish. I was thinking of making a rubber figure of 8 band or something to slip over the neck. I even had one shoot straight out of a stem cell on a sharp drop down, admitted...

Water bottle cages
Hi
After just doing the Jennride and losing another water bottle, what is the most secure method of carrying water over bumpy terrain? I don't need to access it all the time as I can transfer it to the stem cell when needed.
I have a camelback, but hate a sweaty back.
Any suggestions?

Rough Sleeping
Just read this https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/mar/07/rising-number-of-councils-issuing-fines-for-rough-sleeping , and as sad as it is, I couldn't help wondering about the phrase: and “using a tent in a manner likely to create a health and safety risk” liable to a £100 spot fine. I know som...

Re: Stans in very wet conditions.
It may have been a case of not enough, but it was topped up before the event.
Its sorted now, once the bike was dry it sealed no problem.
Just wanted to know if any others have tried something different?

Stans in very wet conditions.
Hi All. OK, after completing this years BB200, I've finally recovered enough to have a thought about what worked and what didn't. I suffered with a constantly flat back tyre, tubeless Schwalbe on DT Swiss rim, I think the sealant was just constantly being washed away or unable to congeal, I was havi...

Re: Steel 29er choices
I do like the look of the new MasonBikes-InSearchOf, daft name but looks to be about perfect, although be prepared for the volume of the green colour, the grey one looks more sensible. https://masoncycles.cc/products/insearchof-frameset At the moment this will be available around December, not a lot...

Re: BB200 planning
I wonder how everyone feels this morning? I drove home after the 200 yesterday afternoon and tried to get out of the car at Telford services feeling as stiff as a board, must have looked odd walking like a 100year old man! All this talk of easy makes me think back to school and those students who cl...

Re: long grips
I have the ESI xtra chunky XL grips on my Jones, however I have wrapped the inner loop part with Cinelli chunky or something. The ESI grips are rubbish against brambles and are ripped to shreds. I have those foam grips on another bike and stick them on with hairspray they are much better and half th...

Hi Stu,
I suspect you mean something like this? https://www.rosebikes.co.uk/shimano-dh- ... ze=32+hole
Is the XT worth the extra or do you find this sort OK? I don't want to keep building wheels every few months.

Re: Exposure revo
Lots of conflicting advice! I don't want to go down the centrelock route if I can avoid it, so that rules out the XT hub, the SON looks to be my best option with the revo lamp unit. Its a shame Maplins no longer exists! Has anyone got any clever ways to mount a red eye unit to the tail of a bike wit...

Re: What's the bikepacking connoisseurs rim of choice?
Hi, I used to always use mavic rims, however most of my bikes are now DT Swiss as they just seem to be indestructable. I have EX471's on my fun bike and if Gwin can do this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YrEvtLpXoY then I am fairly confident I won't break them. I have XM521's on my longitude and t...

Re: Aero bars/clip ons?
40c is very close, Schwalbe smart sams, as long as it's not sticky mud they are OK. Roll OK on the road as well. Tyre pressure is around 38psi so is reasonably soft without being a cornering nightmare. Bars are decent height, I can still look around at my surroundings! I am going to double wrap and ...

Re: Aero bars/clip ons?
Hi BrenininBeemer, Exactly, I do find it a stiff bike, and on the road I do like that, off road or anything bumpy can be........fun! I am running 42c up front and a 40c in the rear and even they struggle to damp the bike over even speed humps. I will try the double wrap to begin with, I was just won...

Re: Aero bars/clip ons?
Hi All, Thanks for the replies. Are you suggesting double wrapping the hoods? I would be worried the tape would interfere with the brake lever. The bike is a Genesis datum, and I suspect the carbon forks are the root cause. I do use the drops and the top bar from time to time, but on longer journeys...

Aero bars/clip ons?
Hi, I am using my drop bar bike more and more now and love the fact it seems to eat the road sections really easily, and I can still pick my way through the dirt OK'ish as long as I don't barrel through the rough stuff. However I am really suffering from numb hands when on the hoods after about an h...

Re: Alternatives to Shimano XM9
I have XM9's and for the majority of what we do they are near perfect. I can't see an alternative that would be any where near as good.
Echo the sizing the XM9's at least are true sizing, I went up a half size to accomodate thicker socks, but would have got away with the normal size.

Re: Cycling in Ireland
Thanks You may be right, the book does have a number of routes of all variety's and makes mention of different terrains, there is not a lot for mountain bikes apart from the trail centres and the Coillte approved tracks. However it does look as though there is a lot for a gravel bike with forgotten ...
