Re: A right ole knees up!
When you get them done it's vital to do the leg straightening exercises. If you do nothing else, do the leg straightening, otherwise you'll have bent legs and walk with a stick. It won't be the nicest exercise you've ever done but it will shape the rest of your life.

A ratchet strap from Screwfix would do the same job for a lot less money.

Carrying bikes is how I ended up with a van. Ignore cars and look for a van or van based car.

Re: New multi-tool and/or leatherman type thingy advice...
I could never see the point in stuff like Leatherman tools, for me it's a Crank Bros 17, small Knipex pliers wrench and tyre levers. I'm confident the multi tool will loosen or tighten every nut and bolt on the bike, split a chain and I've even built a wheel with it just to test it. The Knipex plier...

Re: Varicose veins... ouch!
I had mine done a few years ago in my early 40's. Signed off work for two weeks, happy days I thought, a couple of days to get over the op then two weeks free to ride my bike. I limped around with walks gradually getting longer. I tried my road bike at the end of the first week then went back to lim...

I've got three or four Genuine Innovations Airchuck things that seem to gone up a bit, just googled and I didn't pay more than a fiver. Anyway, best inflater I've used, there's very little to them and they do what they're supposed to.

Lune Ranger,if you want any recommendations on nice places to visit, give me a shout, we're 2 hours south of Barcelona. I've just bought a house in the La Romana area, west of Alicante. I've got bikes at the house but no kit for camping so won't be joining on any rides this year. Hopefully I can shi...

Re: Which side of the track are you?
My dad taught me to ride in the late 60's. I can see it now, put your foot under the left pedal and lift it up, foot on top and off you go. My wife learned to start off with her right foot. As for which side of a trail then it's whatever is easiest unless there's someone coming then it's the left si...

Pie Town was closed when I got there. I kipped in the campground then next morning rode past the Toaster House that I didn't spot the previous evening. I'll have to go back and do it properly.

Wifey and I both have a Jones, both in regular use. Neither have ever received any maintenance in the five or six years we've owned owned them, but then they're both setup geared. My Niner is single speed with a similar BB, it's never given any trouble.

150mm stems, we must have been daft! Funny really, we lusted after that look back then but it made for a horrible handling bike. If the geometry is right then longer stems aren't a problem. Modern stuff with short as possible stems and long top tubes makes bike fitting difficult at best. Then there...

I'm camping at the moment, some of the items in my personal grooming kit include a hair trimmer, beard trimmer, ladyshave (best leg shaver ever). I should add that I now live in a van, but it's still camping.

I'm still experimenting with this but, Orux Maps looking at OpenMTB maps on Android. Unzip the OpenMTB maps on a PC and transfer to phone. This way you can look at the same map on both PC and phone. Using .img maps on Android - Techie
If anyone is interested. I found an app called Orux Maps. On Android Play Store it's £3.something, if you do some surfing the .apk is available for free, it did what I needed so I paid for it. Using the Orux Maps app I've got the Open MTB maps on my phone, tablet and PC all showing the same thing an...
