Re: 1st Bikepacking Trip - The Hebrides
Nice. It's a fantastic trip. Not sure the machair will be flowering yet but it's worth a detour off NCN780 when you get to Daliburgh/Dalibrog on South Uist to get to the machair path then stay on it to somewhere around the golf course. If you are looking for a campsite then I can thoroughly recommen...

The R&K stuff also has a security wire to prevent rotation.

Re: Footpaths
In Scotland you can go where you like (except within 25m of private buildings, apparently), but certain routes seem much more attractive than others. Tracks that disappear down a well manicured drive to a house seem off putting to me but the main “public rights of way” seem to be marked as footpath...

I can't be bothered with a poll, but let's hear it. Are you a roller, a stuffer or a folder?
I'm mostly a stuffer these days , though rolling can be best for removing air from a sleeping mat.

On a serious tack, the questionable legality plus trying to interpret the various purple line patterns does put me off travelling to Englandandwales to ride.

Dynamo output figures
Has anyone recently published output figures from dynamo hubs? I ask as I've recently built a Road Plus wheelset round a Shimano XT8000 dynamo hub and I've noticed that during routine bike maintenance (e.g. pad adjustment) a few spins of the wheel will light up my Exposure Revo. The Exposure (SP) hu...

Depends on your definition of rough.
I'm not at a map at the moment so excuse the lack of detail....
Inverness, Aviemore, Newtonmore, Dalwhinnie, Loch Garry, Rannoch, Loch Ossian, Spean Bridge, Gairlochy, Fort Augustus, Inverness. Lots of easy track, joined up with quieter roads.

Aye - the Sutra never ever got the "fashionable" label. Shame really as it was so far ahead of its time.

Re: Gravel bike in Scotland?
Could some one give me a heads up on the Strath Nethy, Fords of Avon, Glen Avon, Loch Builg route to Ballater from Aviemore? Is it worth doing on 40mm CX or more MTB? It's the Strath Nethy-Glen Avon bit I really need to know about. It's a possible day 4 alternative back to Ballater that I'd like to...

Re: Gravel Bike Rim Recommendations Please!
I've recently used some Superstar T-ready EX23 in 650B size for my tourer/gravel bike thing. They built up easily enough and tubeless was the cleanest/simplest I've ever done. I took the rim decals off as they were a bit gaudy. I'm currently running them with 47mm WTB Byways.

I'm sure Salsa moved all their Ti production to the Far East a few years ago. IIRC there was a fair gnashing of teeth on mtbr about it.

If I might make two minor route alteration suggestions.... After Ballachulish on the A82, take the Corran Ferry across to Ardgour and then the "ferry" back to Fort William from Camusnagaul. The A82 to FW is pretty horrid along there. Check the times for the ferry here... http://www.lochabe...

I agree that there is an issue with the relatively recent explosion of popularity with recreational road cycling. You get newbies going straight to road bikes with their other newbie mates and haven't joined a club or experienced bunch ride to learn the ropes. There's something wrong if you can't g...

Re: Dedicated bikepacking bike... to plus or not to plus?
My oldest two Ti frames are 15 and 10 years old. The 15 year old one hasn't been used (by me) for about four years but has been on loan to someone else for two years. The 10 year old one is still going strong after several thousand miles. The two I've sold on are also still fine as far as I know. Da...
