Re: The colour of luggage?
I got a Tweety yellow one for my wildcat saddlebag harness as I thought it'd be more visible for cars. Used to have a red alpkit one in the front for similar reasons but went to a Lomo one which was only available in black. So generally if try to get something hi-viz if available, as long as it does...

Re: Potential April GPS issues for older units
Sorry Greg, was more meaning for the extra work! Don't think you'd have got into basic training relying purely on a GPS.

Potential April GPS issues for older units
https://www.theregister.co.uk/AMP/2019/02/12/current_gps_epoch_ends/ Like the Y2k issue but for GPS. Might be worth contacting your manufacturer to see if yours is affected. My Garmin watch got an update yesterday which says it was for GPS wonder of it's related. Hope Mountain Rescue aren't busy in...

Re: Bike insurance
Adding with house contents insurance is almost always the cheapest way. You usually need to specify the bikes (amount, make and model etc). Pedalcover used to get a good rep (insuring with AXA) but they couldn't get a great price for me. I've also been with direct line and Aviva who seem to have goo...

I've got the new one in green. It's actually quite a light green so it might not have been what you were looking for anyway. Looks good but think I'd have been happy with either.

Re: Looks like another loop bar coming
Wonder how much/how heavy a carbon "chewy" one like their knuckleball bar would be? Have looked at a Jones carbon but the price is frankly ridiculous, even for a Jones bar.

Those pics are useful thanks. I wonder if having the line Lok outside in the rain is an issue. Having said that my trail star has chunkier ones than that exposed.

lunar solo top vent
Not had my new Lunar Solo out in the wild yet but the garden pitch didn't leave the top vent very open.
Is there a trick to keeping the vent open or do I have to use a stick/fashion something to keep it venting?
Stu.

Re: Looks interesting, maybe cheaper cassettes on the horizo
Think they're saying the steel can be stamped though so in theory made relatively cheaply.
Hope could do a new freehub that included the alu carrier. Suspect there will be the usual manufacturing issues though, likely 3+years away from mainstream.

Looks interesting, maybe cheaper cassettes on the horizon?
Google suggested this to me today. Looks really interesting if they can get it manufactured. Would be great to get cheaper cassette replacement and I'm sure some will really like being able to tune the jumps between gears. https://www.bikeradar.com/gear/article/zuma-innovation-cassette-patent-53139/

Another option:
Lioness front bag means you've got two additional straps round the bag and makes it a bit more stable too

Was hoping for an 11 speed with a bigger range to fit an XD driver but no one seems to be doing them yet. Could do with a lower gear than SRAM make and already on a 30t up front.

Re: Silk bag liner?
While that's true from a warmth perspective, I think they're useful if you're manky and don't want to get your expensive new down bag the same. Saves having to wash your sleeping bag as often (which helps it last). <Edit> would need to be pretty warm in the summer for the liner to work on its own. M...

Not sure about the Spot but Garmin say their ports are waterproof. The cover is just to keep the clag out.

Re: New rear tyre
Hi, sorry been travelling or I'd have replied sooner. I've found Contis to be a bit problematic for Tubeless so I've been staying away from them. I've got an Ardent for the back of my full sus, although it's a 2.4. It's noticeably slower than the Trail boss, although that's 2.4 exo Ardent vs 2.25 li...

New rear tyre
So I was surprised how much I like the WTB trail boss tyres that came with my Maccatuskil. They're the lightweight ones though and am planning some Cairngorm granite rides soon and want something tougher for the rear. Comments on the current candidates please. Particularly if you've tried more than ...

Re: Haute Route, Chamonix - Zermatt
Did it ski touring in March for my Brother's 40th. I remember thinking a bike would be a bit of a liability in places (that video hasn't changed my mind!). There are a few "Haute route" variations though. I'd try and get advice on a route from someone who did it by bike. The Wikipedia page...
