Re: Insulated bottle recommendations

The camelback on I mentioned has a plasticy coating over the bottom half so it sits well in a cage and has a nice handle bit to pull it out with :-bd

Re: Insulated bottle recommendations

I’ve had a camelback chute for years- it’s a good fit in a bottle cage and not too fiddly to drink on the go.

Re: Layering for cold weather riding

My top tips would be brynje mesh base layers. Best I’ve had for wicking, dry instantly, trap loads of heat if under something but allow you to dump it almost instantly if you unzip or vent something. Wear mine under a long sleeve windstopper jersey mostly. And a primaloft gilet for descents and sett...

Re: Dealing with the cold

I’ve got a very early morning commute over some decent hills with about 1000m height gain, the last week has been interesting! Anything with cleats are your enemy- they just act like heat sinks. I use the same northwave boots, upsized one size than normal. The best solution I’ve managed is making an...

Wtd: wingnut backpack

Recently-ish bought a full susser and find myself needing to ride with a back pack again, which is something I’ve actively avoided for quite a while. Want to try a wingnut pack and see if it would cure me of my dislike of them. Anyone got anything they don’t need / want. Happy to have something a bi...

Re: Rigid MTB tyre size..?

I’ve got an embarrassingly huge tyre pile  For ‘normal’ 29er rigid I like ardent race 2.2 rear 2.35 (I think, maybe it’s 2.4?) as they’re nice and quick and you don’t fall off on the corners as much as ikons! Also used a 2.4/2.2 xr3 combo in wetter conditions which works very well. I wouldn’t ...

Re: Spikey ice tyres

I’ve got a pair of very similar schwalbe winter marathons. Maybe they’ve renamed them? First time I used them on frozen compacted snowy roads I thought they felt a bit skittish, so stopped to let a bit of air out the tyre. Put one foot down and fell straight over. So yes very effective. Mine seemed ...

Re: WTD: Salomon TOUNDRA PRO Winter Boots - UK SIZE 11

Alan, i tried some toundra boots 2 year ago before buying these. https://www.keenfootwear.com/p/M-TARGHEE-LACE-BOOT-HIGH-WP.html the salomon boots are very narrow at the heel. the keen boots are nice and wide, and rated to minus 25. and are toasty on my club foot that dont bend or create any warmth...

Modifying full framebag - possible / terrible idea?

I picked up a salsa full frame bag for my spearfish. Mines an old alloy gen1, the bag is for the newer carbon ones. I thought the fit was close enough to give it a go and the bag was a bit of a bargain… The downtube on the newer frames protrudes further forward from the the bb shell before heading u...

Re: Cable discs: advise me

I had spyres on my gravel bike for a while - the 3mm pad adjusters are very susceptible to seizing and rounding off. And they are a bugger to strip down if that happens. I’ve got bb7 on multiple bikes - 2 of which have drop bars, both 180/160 rotors and decent cables. The bike with sram brake levers...
