Re: Going tubeless...

If I’m having as much trouble as it sounds like you are, this is my tactic: Take the tubeless valve out and put in an inner tube. Inflate the tyre and leave it overnight. Next day carefully take off one side of the tyre leaving the other side seated, refit the valve and reseat the side of the tyre y...

Re: £wise, spar or cafe?

Sitting down to enjoy some food (and drink) is one of the things I enjoy most when bikepacking. It's not a bloody race. It's often a chance to strike up a conversation with a local and get a fresh perspective on the world. I agree. By the way, there's pictures everywhere of bikepackers tucking into...

Re: Suggest a posh 8L welded drybag?

I’m a fan of the really robust, really waterproof dry bags made from thick plastic/rubberised material. I’ve had a Sealline Baja 10L dry bag for something like 30years. I used to use it strapped to a rack on my long tours but it works equally well in a bar harness. They come in yellow. https://www.a...

Re: 29+ Tyres Vanished?

I tend to run them on the front only, which thankfully means they last a good while. I’m a fan of the Duro Crux for techy or sloppy riding but it’s definitely heavier and dragged than, say, a Chronicle. Does the Duro go up tubeless? They’re not as tubeless ready are they? I could run one on the fro...

Re: 29+ Tyres Vanished?

29+ suits my riding style. I don’t have much finesse and never was super fast. On the Krampus I can bash my way over/through stuff and just keep going.
I love getting out onto the moorland and 29+ is well suited to that.

Re: 29+ Tyres Vanished?

Yeah, and they’re calling it plus size.
I don’t think it is at all. The 3” tyre on 50mm rim combo really works for the riding I do most of. Dartmoor was just made for 29+

Re: 29+ Tyres Vanished?

Trek Uk have XR2, XR4 and SE4 tyres available, all in 29x3.
I suppose if Trek and Surly keep selling 29+ bikes they will keep on selling tyres to go with them.

Re: 29+ Tyres Vanished?

Just done some searching and things do look very thin on the ground. It’s probably just as supply problems as with other stuff. Luckily I have: A pretty decent set of Chronicles in use. A pair of Dirtwizards for winter (1 new 1 used) A pair of Fat B Nimbles (1 got a side wall gash on their only real...

Eek!
Out of production or just unavailable right now? - like lots of other bike stuff.
I love my Krampus and wouldn’t want to see the demise of 29+ either.
If it helps I know Bikemonger have Surly Dirtwizards in stock because I only just bought one... maybe I’ll buy some more...

Thanks :-bd

Superstar do an oval thick thin at almost half the price of the AB one. Anyone have experience of both. I’d be happy to shell out on the AB if there was a good reason to do so.

Oval rings. Absolute Black or Absolute B*ll*cks?

Krampus needs a new chainring, the Middleburn HC ring that’s on it just started to shed teeth on today’s ride. I could do what I always do and get another Middleburn or I could try something new. In the running is a Hope Retainer Ring or an Absolute Black oval jobbie. My choice is somewhat limited b...

If i cannot then its not a tyre that stays on my bike
Then never buy WTB Rangers.

Re: Help me with my creak

I’ve not seen a PF BB but that’s not possible in my case because it’s a ‘proper’ Royce BB that’s got it’s own shell.
My worry was that the oil would find its way out of the breather holes and onto my rotor when the bike was hung up in the shed but that didn’t happen thankfully.

PS. Don't do the linseed oil thing, really.
Why not? I did it last year and all that’s happened is I don’t have a creaky bike.

Re: Tight tyre tool

I have a tool that looks identical but is branded differently. It’s made of plastic resin. It works extremely well to sit the last bit of bead onto a rim. I got it to seat a particularly difficult rim/tyre combo that had snapped a set of three Park tyre levers previously. It does the job with relati...

Re: Going tubeless...

I like that accept for 29+ pressures. The calculator quotes 22/24psi for 3” tyres on i49 rims for XC MTB. I think that’s pretty hard I’m running 13/15psi on the whole and sometimes think I could do with less:
It appears to be more sensible for narrower tyres.

Re: Help me with my creak

I cured a long standing ?BB creak a while ago by pouring 50ml of warmed linseed oil in through the seat tube. It was a tip I saw on t’internet. Not sure it really needs to be hot but I figured it wouldn’t harm anything if it was, and I do like to follow instructions  I had literally already d...
