Re: How is everyones BB200 prep going?

Ok, here's a quick kit question for those of you 'in the know': Based on the time of year, terrain and other 'likely' factors of the BB200 which of the two possible sleeping-kit options below would you suggest that I go with??? Option 1: 1000g - tent (Six Moons Designs 'Skyscape Scout' 150g - poles ...

Re: How is everyones BB200 prep going?

You guys are going to be so jealous of my recent training and fitness regime. I was originally planning on continuing to do loads of training/riding in order to build on the momentum left over from a summer of training hard and my TransAlp trip but instead I opted to rupture a disc in my lower back ...

Re: Bargain Alert Thread

exactly. i was looking on the Alpkit site in case they still had those semi-Hunkas for a fiver as you could have waterproofed a few yourself and got your cheap bivis you mentioned you're looking for in the other thread. if that idea appeals to you then i bought two of 'em you could have off me to do...

Re: Bargain Alert Thread

this '2 person lightweight tent' from Alpkit looks interesting: http://www.alpkit.com/shop/cart.php?target=product&product_id=16865&category_id=282 they're selling cheap as they're not happy with the design but after reading their comprehensive list of complaints it still seems like it might...

Re: Wildcat Tiger Drybag

I need to correct my details from before - I actually used a 10l Alpkit 'xtra' and not an 8l.

That's the reason for the tight fit but it did go it (as long as I left the inserted end of the dry-bag loose so that it could compress).

Re: Wheel building (rear)

Justridingalong.com is worth a look for the bits you'll need. Don't know if they're the cheapest though, but very reputable in my opinion. thanks, that's a hell of a site for wheel building bits and pieces! Loads of good advice, especially the black spoke thing - true,. i was initially pretty scept...

Re: Wheel building (rear)

thanks folks, lots to think about! For a start I wouldn't go near DT rims, it might just be one of 'those things' but I've seen more of these destroy themselves than anything else ... they seem very 'soft'. fair enough. I'm sure you're well aware that building wheels is likely to cost you the same o...

I have a medium Tiger and used an 8l Alpkit Xtra without too much hassle (was a tight fit).

I should also say that if anyone has some bits for sale I might be interested!

Also, if anyone knows of 'THE' place to by any of the above bits then that info would be great too.

Wheel building (rear)

I'm thinking that it's about time I built myself a wheel! I've got some basic knowledge about the how of it all but I could use some assistance with which components I should get. I'm looking to build a rear wheel for my (new!!!) 29er (don't worry, I've got one to use whilst I perfect the new one) a...

Re: Cotic 'Solaris'

Ok, procrastination time has ended! An order has just been placed for 1 Cotic 'Solaris' (size: L - colour: that funny but cool blue) and a pair of 29er Rockshox 'Reba RL's. Nice try Stuart, you nearly had me but I resisted! Seriously though, I almost cracked and went for the On-one but I am 99% cert...

Re: Ariège region France?

Never heard of it before your post!

But.....I know some people who know some people and so I'll see what I can find out.

Also, I might be able to wangle a couple of free days if you fancied some company (no worries if it's your 'alone time') for a day or two during your trip?

Re: Cotic 'Solaris'

Stuart, Thanks, those look nice. Damn, now I'm confused!!!!! I had it all figured out until this whole Lurcher malarkey came about and now I'm unsure what to do. My wife (quite rightly) pointed out that I've always bad-mouthed carbon frames and that I'd be a massive hypocrite if I did a u-turn and n...

Re: Cotic 'Solaris'

Pedalhead, What you say makes sense and the idea of a nice light rigid fork up-front (eXotic? £113! any other suggestions?) is one I've been considering. Cheeky Monkey, I did take a look at the Singular (although I was really focusing on the Swift) and they seem to tick most of the boxes but I'd hav...

Re: Cotic 'Solaris'

Thanks Ray, I do like the look of the Charge but it's of a similar weight to the Surly and On-one and I'm looking to lose a little heft on the frame (as well as a few other components).

Cotic 'Solaris'

Afternoon folks, Firstly, some background..... I've recently been trying convince myself that I have adequate reason to sell my Surly 'Karate' Monkey frame (and Manitou Minute 29er forks) and buy a Pace 'RC129' frame (with accompanying super-nice DT Swiss forks). But.....the financial implications o...

Yeah, not a bad idea.

I've been talking with Yann about us working together to design/build me a fat-bike and so maybe I could combine this trip with a visit to his workshop to get things started :D

I'll be participating in a 'Winter bivi/bothy/hammock gala 2012 (France)' on those dates out of solidarity for my British compatriots.

Although.....as it'll just be me I think that the use of the word 'gala' might be a stretch.
