Re: Veloviewer map - explorer tiles

Episode 11 of my Diary of a Randonneur has some Veloviewer stuff in that might be of minor interest.

Re: Looking ahead - what are you looking forward to?

I'm honestly not hankering for anything in particular at this point. I don't mind working from home at all and I'm able to manage my time effectively that I'm not working longer than I should be. More now than ever I'm able to switch it off when I should be. Given that my expertise is e-learning/dis...

Re: It's vanished, gone into the garage black hole

I only bought a quick release seatpost clamp about a month ago. I bought a good one too. A chromag one. I used the exact type before and they work. But where is it now... I love the Chromag Seatpost clamps. There is just something about the finish and the brass bushing that just ticks my boxes. :-b...

Episode 11. Bit of commentary on my experience of lockdown and how I'm challenging myself now the Audax season is suspended. I do a segment on Explorer Squares at the end as well.

Re: Veloviewer map - explorer tiles

I haven't increased my square much lately but I have increased my square count and my cluster quite a bit. I guess this is because I working towards a specific max square goal right now, and filling in sectors of the map has meant little progress all the way around the edge of the current square, ju...

Re: Veloviewer map - explorer tiles

Unsure the PRO+ account is worth the extra money, but the standard account is worth more than £10 a year. Unsure on Bens model, but I imagine he has a good solid membership base and at £10 a year most people will just renew, as in context it’s not that much if you consider how much a new tyre is. I...

And the VV owner, Ben, is a Yorkshire man - or at lives in Sheffield. Pretty handy on the bike as well! I was wondering how he may do when renewals come up. As said, £10 is not a lot, but if you lose your income then is an easy extra to cut back on. My life is now square hunting since the Audax sea...

Re: We've got a new T shirt too.

The principle was sound and amusing but you would probably have to point out the humour to most folk who would just see the motif and not read the wording. Perhaps go with a similar theme - What about the Space Corps? (as in open space,) you could have a groovy motif with suitable slogan. After all...

I was able to finally get all the video parts from my trip in March uploaded and here they are. I'm not sure I will ever go with anything other than DT Swiss hubs these days. The ones I have had have been flawless for me. I have a couple of sets laced to light bicycle carbon rims, both MTB and road deep section and I really like them.

Re: 'Doping scandal of the Highland Trail 550'...?

Some idle speculation... Someone had legitimately had a course of them for "whatever" and in the same way I carry ibuprofen/paracetamol fairly often on rides, were carrying the pain killers that they had left from their "whatever" and simply had no idea it was a banned drug. How ...

I have built about 6 wheels in total and I'm certainly no expert at all. I used to find that as long as I wasn't in a rush and I could spend as long as was needed to get it right then it could be quite a therapeutic activity. I would suggest getting a stand though as it makes life much easier. Havin...

Not sure I'm even going to bother trying for the Midlands. Was difficult enough trying to get a 100km AAA (at least 1500m) Audax diy route worked out.

That 2014 Bearbones200 was a really tough one. 26hours! it took me. First time I had done a single pull over 24hours. The hike-a-bike on that route was one of the few times I thought there were no redeeming features for what so ever. Much of the time a bit of tough hike-a-bike gets you somewhere nic...

Re: Battling the evil turbo

You have to really hate yourself to enjoy the Turbo. I managed an hour today just spinning while watching 30 Rock, but it was still rubbish. Normally I only do interval sessions on the turbo. Between the blowing out your arse and the trying not to puke it's much harder to get bored.

Still got my 2009 Orange Five. It's just a really fun bike to ride. I don't really ride it enough anymore but it's worth more to me for 5 or 6 rides a year, than what I would ever get for it selling it on. https://www.composite-projects.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/img_5397_edit_web.jpg https://...

Re: Rat advice sought!

Get a Manchester Terrier and plus its bed in the shed. A great ratter. Our cat made a surprisingly good ratter. Cleared out our shed. We were pretty shocked honestly. Cats always like you to think they're innocent. Don't fall for it. It was never innocence, more that she is mostly a house cat that ...
