Re: Bike Advice (Switch from CX to MTB?)

The Boardman bikes appear good value for money - I know a few (club riders rather than someone who just "fancied a bike") who have Boardman road bikes and are happy with them.

Re: Waterproof gilet?

never quite understood Gilets or sleeveless jackets as they call them in Ireland how ever i do like the work one i´ve got but i wonder why its waterproof? They make lots of sense for road biking but not so much off-road mainly due to the higher speeds on the road. A couple of scenarios: 1. Very lig...

I've a RaceFace 30T on my 1x10 set up, not had chain drop yet even when blasting down technical trails in pursuit of my mates on full suss bikes.

Not all of us in the north have gravy on our chips, mainly the Manchester area I believe. Certainly in Cumbria we are more refined

Though the answers to "How long have you continually worn the same clothes for?" Should be
• A month or so - 1
• a week - 2
• Till mummy says I have to change - 3

Though to be really hardcore it should be: until the stitching falls apart

Re: Rovaniemi 150

A check on Strava (yes I know) doesn't show many segments in that area though it looks like there are one or two hills. With some (several?) people chosing singlespeed I suspected it might be relatively gentle terrain, well apart from the snow and the cold (though it's currently -2C).

Re: how much???!!!

Many years ago when I was starting out alpine climbing (with a mate who had over a dozen seasons and several good 'ticks' to his name) I wondered why anyone would hire a guide to be dragged up what to me looked to be pretty plain, technically easy routes*. My mate countered with the argument that, s...

Yes, looks like it's the only show in town - did a search this afternoon and couldn't find anything saying there was a village store or similar in either Kylesku or Kylestrome.

The Drumbeg store has a rather spiffy website - http://www.drumbegstores.co.uk/

Re: Lightweight sleeping mats

Thanks for the replies.

Like I said, I've used pieces of karrimat taped together. Used it for events like the OMM as well as bothy trips but it does require that I'm using a rucksack, or at least that's how I've always done it. Old bones are leading me to a "softer" solution

Lightweight sleeping mats

What do folk on here recommend for a lightweight sleeping mat? Probably looking at an inflatable mat as these will (should) compress down to be fairly compact when not in use. I've a full length Thermarest which will do for late autumn - winter - early spring, but I'm after something for the warmer ...

Re: Alpkit 650B+ bikepacking bike.

Oh god a new genre - the bike packing bike. I thought the whole point of bikepacking (and all the weird shaped bags) was that you could use any mountainbike, even a full bouncer. People may choose to use rigids for simplicity's sake but you don't need to tag them as 'bikepacking' its just a fecking...

Battery pack

Has anyone any recommendations for a battery pack to be used for extending the use time of my GPS (Garmin 510)? At the moment it would just need to supply power but in the future I'll be looking at having a dynamo setup so being able to charge it from such (through a regulator) would be an advantage...

Re: Stabilising the Alpkit Fuel Pod (or other top tube bag)

Somewhat bizarrely I was having this problem with my fuel pod and was thinking along the same lines. You need something on the other side of the top tube to attach to so that it doesn't twist about. A couple of velcro patches on either side of the frame bag should be enough.

Within the UK: The Lakes (grew up there); NW Scotland

Outside the UK: maybe Alaska

NW Scotland and Alaska both have that wilderness appeal.
