Re: 2022 Plans (to go with the 2021 Reflections thread)

I'm 50 next year and my eldest son's 18, and I want to mark it by either walking the Camino de Santiago or trekking in Morocco with him. It all depends on how much time I can get off work. I have a few routes in my head where I get on the train and cycle home that I want to do. I want to continue lo...

Re: 2021 reflections

Favourite ride/trip/outing: Discovering the Howgills after driving past them literally hundreds of times, and a short ride on The Ridgeway visiting Wayland's Smithy and Uffington while down south with work. Favourite piece of kit: My new (to me) fully rigid Pinnacle Ramin. It just feels right. Piece...

Nice one Jeff, looks like a good weekend out.
I've seen that bothy and those ruins when walking down the other side of the valley and they're on my list of places to check out.
Cheers, Michael.

Re: Longshot - Swift Zeitgeist or Wizardworks Shazam Handlebar Bag Wanted.

Thanks Ledburner, but there are some specific features that I'm looking for that these bags have but the Carradice style doesn't. I already have a Carradice style bag that's alright as a handlebar bag, but lacks the improvements of the Zeitgeist or Shazam.

Cheers, Michael.

Re: What you done t' your bike today

Fitted some TRP Spykes to the Ramin, so it's now fully rigid and fully mechanical. I just need to get rid of this cold now and give it a test ride.

Re: Practicing being rufty tufty!

Would you strip off and put your damp clothes inside your sleeping bag with you or outside your bag but still inside the bivy bag? Neither as both will promote condensation. I'd take them off and seal them in a bag and leave them outside. If it's below freezing, it's worth keeping that sealed bag o...

I don't want to overexcite anyone, but I worked on a couple of Bucyrus 680 W modular draglines in Jordan back in the 90s. I even have some candid photos of the filthy beasts.

Re: Odd places to sleep

1985. Took a whole month off work - a year's holiday in one go - and Interrailed around Scandinavia with just some spare socks and a hopeless Lichfield one-man tent. Variety of trampy sleeping situations, including a shed a few hundred yards from the Russian border in Finland in full sight of a gua...

Re: Odd places to sleep

My mate and I spent the night in a perfect little howff beneath Gardom's Edge in 1992. The experience was enlivened when my petrol stove squirted fuel over my rucsac just as I lit it, which resulted in two decent sized lads trying to put a fire out in a confined space while trying to keep our sleepi...

Re: Anyone follow a strict diet ?

I'd been trying to lose weight for years, and nothing worked. This year I've found that if I stick to around 1400 calories a day (I spread it over two meals, lunch and tea) during the week with no alcohol , I can eat what I want and have a few scoops at the weekend. I've been doing this since April ...

Re: Has Anyone Been On The Ridgeway Recently?

I've been in the area but can't really answer your question  I spent the weekend riding to the west of Salisbury. It had been drizzling most of last week and where water pools on the ridge drove roads it was mucky but rideable, terrain similar to the Ridgeway. The tracks off the ridges, espec...

Has Anyone Been On The Ridgeway Recently?

Does anyone know what conditions are like on The Ridgeway at the moment, especially around Uffington?

Basic HotPogs can now be ordered, black only.

Good call, I ordered some earlier. Hopefully this winter I'll only have cold feet.

TRP Spyke Brakes Question

If any of you have bought some TRP Spykes, what comes in the box with the calipers? Do you get adaptors too, or are they aftermarket?

If anyone knows where they're in stock that would be useful too, there don't appear to be many left.

Cheers, Michael.

Wanted - 29er or 700c QR Disc Brake Wheels

29er or 700c Disc brake Wheels wanted, 100 /135 QR.

I'm looking for cheap rather than fancy, strong rather than light, and suitable for a 40mm tyre.

I can easily collect in the northwest or around Leicester.

Cheers, Michael.

Nice one Stu, that's just saved me butchering my old footwarmers, and it'll look better than the sky blue Pertex they're made from.

Re: Which 3 to 4 Season Glove do you Recommend?

I'm thinking about making some pogies for when it gets properly cold. I've got some old pertex and pile booties knocking about somewhere that should be fairly easy to convert.
