Re: Admiring the night sky - for how much longer?

There is also an argument that the biggest energy usage is still large companies rather than households and so the onus should be on governments to tackle their usage. I'm sure that's true Ben but if people bothered to turn lights off, not leave things on stand-by, put a jumper on rather than turni...

Re: Admiring the night sky - for how much longer?

It's a bit like power generation - I see turbines going up on a weekly basis and I wonder why there's no campaign to promote a reduction in usage rather than generating more? Then I remember that (a) there's no money in that and (b) people are generally too selfish for such things. There kind of wa...

Re: Dorset Gravel Dash

Yeah I am. Riding the 50/50. I've ridden the route a few times but this will be the first time I've actually done the event.

I'll be (going very slowly) on a green steel frame with surly forks, jones bars and camo restrap framebag. :-bd

Interested if it's late enough in the year.

Might be a good motivation to:
1. ride it
2. ride more to get the fitness back to do 1.

WTD: Cheap simple headtorch

Random request of the day? Does anyone have a headtorch sat unused in a box they want to move on?

It's for my Mum to use in her garden so doesn't need to be fancy/expensive/1000's of lumens.

Re: 'Int tubeless brilliant!

Tubeless is great however currently fighting some gravelkings. Not impressed with WTB TCS tape, I've got sealant leaking out of the valve holes. :???: That sucks. It's Gorilla tape every time for me now. I used Gorilla tape on my MTB wheels and found it pretty easy to set up. TCS tape in comparison...

FS - Single speed wheelset, Hylex brakes + more stuff.

Singlespeed 'cross/gravel/road wheelset. Rear hub is a Surly single speed disc hub and runs smoothly with no play. Front is a Deore M525, no play but feels a bit more rumbly so might need some attention. Rims are Kinlin (can't remember the model, single eyeletted) and built with Sapim race d/b spoke...

Geometry wise it's pretty much a Fargo with less space in the triangle (20mm off the seat tube) and 10mm added on the ETT.

Re: CyclingUK mag article

If I where a roadie (tarmac and gravel) touring, I'd not give bikepacking bags a second thought and would go for panniers. Much easier to pack. Soo much easier. Having used both quite a lot, invariably the thing you want out of the pannier has gravitated to the bottom so you have to take everything...

WTD: 9 speed double front road derailleur 31.8 clamp.

Does anyone have a 9 speed road double front derailleur with a 31.8 clamp lying around gathering dust they would like to sell/give to me?

I was sure I had one myself but I've obviously got rid at some point.

I had it with an SP hub. Solution is to space the disc away from the hub.

Re: Solar Charging

I've used a power traveller solar monkey (I think). Too bulky/heavy for bikepacking. On a tour with panniers I strapped it to the top of one and then used to point it at the sun at camp. From memory (this is 3 years ago) took something daft like two days to charge the internal battery unless it was ...

What?

I've run a B&M USB-werk for years in a bag with sometimes nothing plugged in for days. I guess the tiny cache battery in one of those stops the open circuit problem but my usb-werk doesn't get hot (or even noticeably warm).
