Re: Trans-Alp trip report

Day 05 was brutal! It had a nice easy beginning (as you can see below) but then there was a 1600m/1mile vertical ascent which nearly killed me: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22241800/05/profile.jpg Predictably the day started off wet and windy but there were still some nice views to be had: http://dl.drop...

i did think of that but figured if i was desperate to use that tactic then it'd likely be too late for any kind of buggering off attempt.

Re: Trans-Alp trip report

Sorry for the delay in the posting of Day 04 but I’ve been having image hosting issues and have been unable to put anything new up for days. So…..where were we? Ok, day 04 started wet. I continued the climb I’d started the afternoon before and still had another 500m of ascent to finish off: http://d...

Re: Freeloader Pico, Solar charger

is it any good???

can i plug a USB cable into it?

if the answer to the above it 'yes' then i'll take it (and be happy to pay a little more to get it delivered to France if that's cool).

Re: New Video

Thanks folks - glad you like it!

Ian,

I had a look at the unedited footage and it took 2 minutes and 9 seconds to walk back up.

it's not as much hassle as the videos make it look (although when you're tired.....).

Re: Trans-Alp trip report

Chew, that good because here's some more..... Day 03: Despite what the profile of the .gpx file indicates below I did not descend to sea-level before climbing a 1.5km vertical cliff at the start of day 03! http://simple-lodge.com/biking/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/profile2-500x158.jpg It did however ...

Re: Trans-Alp trip report

Ok, day 02..... I woke up pretty early as everything was damp (especially where the leak was funnily enough!) and so got up and started to pack everything away. http://simple-lodge.com/biking/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/profile1-500x159.jpg Before long I passed through a nice little village where I d...

will do!

i need to do some editing of the .gpx files first as the GPS went mental at times (you'll see the profile pictures claiming i climbed vertically all of a sudden - weird!).

Trans-Alp trip report

It's been well over a week since I returned from my 'Big Trip' and so I decided it was about time I attempted to string some words together and write about what went on. Ok, here goes..... We drove over to Chamonix where I got my kit loaded/packed and went for a little test ride. The next morning I ...

SOOOOOOOO much more stable than my Revelate seat pack. Not used it yet but the riding around the garden test produced a very positive yes. i used one on my recent TransAlp trip (I've always hated saddle-packs in all of their guises) and it was brilliant! no swinging, no rubbing, in fact I barely no...

i've not had any trouble but i've only done it a few times (and another few times with a hammock/tarp set-up) in the Ardeche (no idea about other departments).

here's my effort:

it pretty much rained (thunder/lightening/snow!!!) every night of my trip (and for at least 3-4 hours every day) and so i feel lucky to have some photos of something vaguely 'summery'.

enjoy.....

cool, will see you there!

and i'm not sure about the count yet - need to do some starbar-per-mile calculations and then figure out how i'm going to carry it all (it will be a lot though!).

i'm already worried about just how hard this is going to be - fun, fun, fun!

ALIVE!!!!!

After 6.5 days (3.5 days faster than expected) in the mountains I successfully completed my TransAlp trip! I’ve just gotten back to Chamonix and am absolutely (both physically and mentally) exhausted. I’ll post more when I recover but for now I can confirm that I am alive (just) and well (all things...

My trip is imminent! I leave at 06:00 in the morning and am now off to bed. Ideally I'll make it and live to bore you all to death with my write-up and photos upon my return. I'll leave with an incredibly sad (numbered) picture of all of my kit (with accompanying key): Enjoy..... http://simple-lodge...

i had one of the 2/3rd length ones and they're brilliant!

i got rid as it was a little narrow for my fat-bloke shoulder girth but i can't fault 'em for that.

Re: MYOG Easy bar bag/headtube anti rub device for £7.99

ok, crisis averted - the gear arrived.

i still think i'll use this solution in the future though as it's a great little fix.

the mountain lion took me some time to set-up (i've been uber-tired lately) but everything is now sorted and i'm off in the morning!

cheerio, gairy.
