Re: Bikepacking in Norway?

Sorry to resurrect this, particularly as the general feeling is that Norway doesn't have much for bikepacking. I am looking at a trip next summer, basing out of Bardufoss (about 80km south of Tromso), so starting within a days drive of there (Nordkap would be great), and either finishing within a da...

Re: alfine v cassette

Use the search box - I think there has been lots of comments. My experience is that Alfine 11 is just not robust enough for MTB, and after sending mine back twice under warranty, I got a refund. Everybody I have met who has used one has had a very similar experience!

Re: Tour Divide ... thinking out loud.

Reminds me a bit of the one time the KIMM/OMM was abandoned mid-race (I think it was 2008), when exceptionally bad weather hit the Lake District. Fortunately the vast majority of the competitors where sufficiently prepared to deal with it, but accusations where still made (by uninformed observers, m...

I'd like to try some for sure. Love my Mt Zoom lightweight ally bar ends, but these might be better when using Topeak ergo grips.

Re: Veloviewer Premium headsup

Nice graphics, but unless I'm missing something it's just eye candy. When I finally buy a powermeter I'll subscribe to a proper performance analysis tool like Training Peaks, but I don't see much point to this over the free online logs.

Thinking about a trip to Northern Norway in June. Does anybody have knowledge of trail routes in the Narvik to Alta area?

Re: Your favourite looking bike?

So many gorgeous bikes out there, but I'm another fan, and would love to own a Rob English. Sadly I am not patient enough to wait 2 years, in which time I will have fallen for something else!

Still dig the look of the Cannondale Scalpel, Lefty front, zero pivot articulated rear; sexy and functional.

Re: Marital understanding

You're missing out Dave; my missus loves playing nursey with the Sudocreme, especially if it hurts my raw arse! I wouldn't let her loose on my bike with the spanners though, even if she is a qualified aircraft engineer...!

2015 Planning

Trying to get organised and start planning events for next year, by which point I may have some feeling back in my feet! Does anybody know of a consolidated calendar of Bikepacking events? The options so far consists of: WRT - 2 May Cairngorm Loop - 2 May HTR - 23 May CTR - August? TBC BB200 - Octob...

Re: Cold feet - hints and tips here

My feet also went numb, and are only very gradually getting back to normal - front third still feel very odd and not great for walking. They have 5 weeks to get sorted before the first Telemark ski trip of the winter; not so easy without dexterity in the toes! I'd be interested to hear how you get o...

Re: Dynamo lights 101

What's the difference between SP and USE dynamo hubs? I used a helmet-mounted Diablo at the weekend, but on the 12hr setting (mode 2, low pwr) it was barely enough for the flat sections and woefully inadequate on descents... But it did produce a constant level for 12 hrs! Not aware of the piggy-back...

Re: BB200 Water borne dodgyness

Feet are also still numb, and the doc isn't sure if it is cold induced or a nerve thing related to my lower back... Apart from that I'm feeling better than expected, with minimal DOMS, but I deliberately avoided drinking ground water.

Re: Your bb200 bike

My Alfine 11 experience was very poor, but at least JRA recognised it was a widespread problem and gave me a refund. I've yet to meet anyone who has not had problems with it. Shame, as I really like the concept but reluctant to spend a grand on a Rohloff unless they produce a lighter version.

Re: Your bb200 bike

Another Traverse... Need to find the energy and motivation to sort it out. Lessons Identified: - PF BB Bearings have no place on a Mtn Bike, but we all know that anyway! - Tubeless tyre plugs are brilliant - plugged a 3mm gash in the sidewall that the Stans fluid could not cope with and held for ano...

More thanks for Stu & Dee - these events don't organise themselves and regardless of the hate I vented enroute, it's amazing how much can be forgiven over a mega bacon buttie! I expect a few short cuts where taken, as others have mentioned, but who can blame them - I may have done the same if I ...

Given that the forecast is firming up, with a fair bit of rain inevitable, what's everybody thinking of wearing? I think I will now go for full leg & arm soft-shell with a gore-tex waterproof jacket for the heavier showers.

This could be the best riding bike in the world, but it is just so fugly I would never give it a try - perhaps my loss. BIkes don't have to be works of art, but they cannot be this aesthetically challenged.

How safe / risky is this? Seriously, I have never visited Israel, but all we ever hear on the British media is about the violence and dangers associated with this part of the world…
It does look appealing.
