Re: Alternative hunka-xl?

Borah would probably suit my needs really. Yes want much lighter than my current one which is nearly 1kg, but doesn't need to be stand alone in the pouring rain standard

Re: Alternative hunka-xl?

I think I'll just hang out for a hunka xl they're due in in March so I can wait until then. Pity you don't seem to be able to pre order.

Thanks :-bd

Re: New to the forum

Hi.

I'm sure you'll be fine, just ease in to it and find what works for you. We're not all doing or capable of the amazing feats of endurance that some do, but I'm sure we all have fun, of some type

Re: BareBones Fatfighters - The weigh in

Well I guess you'd know better than a generalisation, but it gives some idea better than BMI

I would have thought any race cycling weight is going to be well lower than suggested anyway.

Re: BareBones Fatfighters - The weigh in

http://www.timigustafson.com/2009/what-is-your-frame-size-s-m-l-xl/ http://www.superskinnyme.com/ideal_weight_calculator.html I'm officially a large frame going by wrist size and size 13 feet at 6'. BMI has always been nonsense for me. According to the above I should be in the 164-188lb range. Give...

Re: Bearbones Fatfighters Club...

Oat cakes and pate or cheese or egg mayo or tinned fish are what I often have at work; even handy when I'm out and about. The other thing that works at work is mixed leaf salad with beetroot, olives and eggs, fish ( hot smoked.salmon) or those packets of cooked chicken chunks. Saying that other idea...

Re: Bearbones Fatfighters Club...

Mackerel or whatever on oatcakes works for me, atleast it's better than bread. I eat oat cakes a fair amount with cheese or pate on them. Nairns cheese ones are good :-bd

Re: Bearbones Fatfighters Club...

Yeh I was thinking all these bikepackers doing super distances and the like must be all racing snakes, obviously many are, but good to know I'm not alone. Good to hear a recommendation for the Joe wicks book, think my wife will go for that :-bd Egg mayonnaise ( our own eggs) and pork and leek sausag...

Re: Bearbones Fatfighters Club...

I assume we don't want to clog up the weigh in thread with discussion, so I thought I'd post here to see how it's going and if anyone has some killer tips (hopefully without it becoming an argument over xyz...). Well I managed to loose just over a pound between Boxing day and the official weigh in. ...

Re: Scottish Bothy Bible by Geoff Allan

Another thought - I think it's possibly slightly immoral to be making money by publishing details of bothies that are only available thanks to the generosity of the landowners and MBA volunteers and donors. Although it does say 10% of sales will go to the MBA. I assume that being the case the MBA a...

Re: 2017 plans

I have a few plans... Hope to do a 200km day A couple of low key sportive/charity events up here. Improve my local 10 and 25 mile TT times. Booked my flights for the Faroe Islands the first week in June, but backpacking rather than bike packing due to logistics. Early September hope to do either NW ...

Re: 2016 Mileage Total

A few km short of 5500km (nearly 3400 miles) I've cycled this year, the longest ride being 170km. Did two 100 milers and a fair number over 100km. Not bad considering I was finished from work in 2007 with ME/CFS, been a long struggle back to work and fitness and only able to get back on the bike two...

Re: Bivyplorer

Yeh, must just be the projection.

I find it really hard in other countries that don't have our OS grid system to easily judge scale and distance. I think we're very lucky to have OS maps, they do have their issues, but really they're ace.

Re: Synmat going down

I had that, ended up giving Lilo Lil a blow up twice through a night.

Stuck it in the bath and there were minute bubbles as the mat had become porous in certain areas.

Email them and Send it back if in warranty I don't think there's a fix if it's that. Sadly mine was a month out of it

Re: Bivyplorer

They get bigger the further north and they're not the standard 1km ever really?! Bonkers!

I'm at 60 degrees north so how big are mine?!

I'll be sticking with OS, seems a strangely sensible system

Re: Bivyplorer

I had some idea of starting in the grid square live in and then circling round from there one square at a time, working out. It wouldn't involve much biking due to the nature of the ground but might be an interesting challenge and could involve swimming or canoeing to islands. Got me thinking... and...

I highly suspect they just ditched it when his attempt ended so swiftly. Fair enough if he didn't quite make the time or got close but with only 3 days ( or whatever it was) done I'd guess they didn't have a programme...

Possibly a family bivy nearby in one of the few things that passes for a wood in Shetland, though it's more of a copse. We'll even be able to have a fire! Me, wife and 9year old son.
