Re: Forks wanted

That's interesting - presumably that meant you still had 'vertical' clearance for a decent size 700c tyre?

Re: Forks wanted

Thanks all. Looks like the MTB forks are a no go. And thanks Phil - those forks look lovely, but a bit out of my price range. Found these, which look like they might fit the bill https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/forks/the-l ... mm-offset/

Re: Forks wanted

Look nice, but forgot to say I also need a straight steerer, not tapered. Found some Chinese carbon ones, but they're designed for 29er MTB geometry - axle to crown is 475m Vs about 400mm on current ones. Would welcome opinions as to how much difference that 75mm would actually make. I have 20mm of ...

Forks wanted

Moon on a stick time.... I've got a lovely gravel frame supplied by jameso of this parish and I've just discovered a crack on the fork crown. This is the 2nd pair of forks I've broken on this frame and I had a nightmare finding a replacement last time, rescued only by jameso finding a spare pair in ...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

I've had no issues with pitching as long as you give it some good tension. It's annoying it's not quite freestanding but I see they've changed this on the new version! Thanks, that's good to hear. I think mine is an Ordos 2, so presumably that is the newer version. The problems only really seem to ...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

Beautiful photos samwise! Apologies for hijacking, but looks like you've got an alpkit ordos and just wondered how you find it? I've got one too and seem to have a 50/50 success rate with getting the weird crucifix poles at the back end pitched properly.

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

Thanks moder dye. Pip is 14 and about to turn 15, so I'm all too aware that this won't last for ever. He seems to genuinely enjoy it and I've promised myself (and my wife!) that I won't ever bully him into it. The lure of the screen is just so powerful and I feel your pain! Hopefully one day your bo...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

Me and pip snuck one in last night to make it 4 out of 4 so far. We found another spot just off the south downs way and had a very pleasant, warm and wind free night. Up and away before the dog walkers were out and treated to a descent off the downs into an Ouse valley full of sea mist. https://i.im...

Re: PBP - anyone planning on entering?

I've been keeping an eye on yacf and it sounds as though there's normally quite a few who use the Newhaven-dieppe route and ride down. Depending on timings, there could be a sizeable group, on the way down at least.

Re: PBP - anyone planning on entering?

I'll be taking the ferry from Newhaven-dieppe. It gets you to within 180k of the start. Trains on the French side look like a bit of a shitshow, so I imagine I'll end up riding from Dieppe to rambouillet and buvvying the night before.

Re: PBP - anyone planning on entering?

How is the qualifying going? I managed to get a pre-registration spot on the very last wave of riders in the last (84hr) timeslot. I'm not great at riding through the night tbh, so I prefer the idea of starting early in the morning. Mildly concerned about the 84hr limit, but that's how long I took t...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

Nice one, I'll take that! It is a lovely area, but nothing like as wild or dramatic as a lot of the places I see people posting here. Always amazes me how few of the locals seem to spend any time up there.

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

March bivvy ticked off for me and the boy. We took advantage of the milder temperatures and ventured (only slightly) further afield this time - up onto the south downs way and a pitch by the trig point at the top of firle beacon. Having entered the clouds just after alfriston, it turned out a bit co...

Exposure - top class service

I'm sure it's been covered here many times, but I've been blown away by the level of service provided by exposure lights. My MK4 joystick must be at least 12 years old and stopped working a couple of months ago. I feared the worst and bought a replacement, but thought I'd see whether exposure could ...

Thanks very much, that'd be amazing. Could you grab me 3 plus nylocs please if that's not taking the Mickey? And too long is fine - I'm happy to trim them and then round them off with a grinder.

Re: SRAM and Shimano grx compatibility

Thanks Lazarus. Just managed to score a used gx clutched 10 speed long cage rear mech for much cheapness on eBay and one of those reduced 11-42 Microshift cassettes from wiggle. Now I've just got to build an old xt hub and an xt dynohub into a shiny new pair of 700c wtb Kom rims and I'll hopefully b...

Re: SRAM and Shimano grx compatibility

I have a Sonder Camino Ti with Sram Rival 2x11 shifters, Rival front and rear long cage mech, Sram 1170 36T cassette and Shimano GRX 46-30 chainset. Works with no issues. @Hux, are you using a clutched rival rear mech (ie originally from a 1x11 set up) or a dedicated 2x11 mech? Everything I've read...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

Our only encounter of note was a bloke with a transit full of huskys and a wheeled sledge thing - who am I to judge? I love random baffling encounters like that. Who were they? What were they up to? Why? Like your photos. There's some very strange shenanigans going on with that sleeping gear - what...
