Re: What you done t' your bike today
I fitted a pair of Jones bars to my hardtail and rode it for the first time in five months. The multiple hand positions feel good and I stormed up a local climb with relative ease, I might need to move the bar ends higher. My cables are long enough to fit without being changed but I can't fit any ba...

Re: S2S 'bag liners
I used one in a -3c bag at -12c (the weather took a turn for the worse) and I did not sleep, though I was on the edge of shivering. Not sure if it added +8 but it did something. I have started taking a pair of Rab Powerstretch trousers which are wearable when not inside the sleeping bag, I find this...

Re: Brynje - Worth being disavowed!
Gutted to be the one dissenting voice, but I've got a Brynje short sleeve that I've used for several months under various insulated and waterproof tops from plain roubaix through polar alpha to a Paramo Velez Light, and I still get wet and cold on my hour commute. I've tried the full spectrum of ve...

Re: OT: Opinions, Hillieberg Soulo owners
I have the Allak 2 which I use with a buddy and on my own. On my own it is a hefty tent to carry (Soulo red label is 1kg lighter). Quick to go up all in one as you can peg the corners and guylines out, dump your bag inside to weight it, then put the poles in after. If I had the chance to go back I w...

West coast services there are always two seats right at the very front of carriage A which are reserved for cycle passengers. The doors are "locked" put you can just pull it open as it is an emergency exit. These exit doors there are unable to be opened from outside and are alarmed if open...

Nice one! Would be fitting it to a 25 litre omm rucksack, on the off chance thats what you'll be using yours with. Although they look pretty universal. It arrived earlier this week but did not have the motivation to check it out until tonight. I am fitting it to an Osprey Exos 58 which has no hipbe...

Re: Wanted: OMM Chest Pod
Just seen an eBay seller called wild sky gear who makes his own version of these out of various light weight materials. Has anyone bought from him? I might have coincidentally purchased one on Friday night, waiting for it to arrive. Will try it out and get back. The other two stock items and one cu...

Any input/thoughts on my Qu above about time from Milngavie to Tyndrum? Under 10 hrs should be achievable shouldn't it? I went (t'other way) from Tyndrum to Milngavie with full camping gear in 11 hours. You would be doing 85km and 2500m+ climbing. It took me 4 hours to do just 11km and 350m ascent/...

I did the Woodcock route in 2018.
35c for six days, not a single cloud the entire time, knocking on farm doors for water.
It was purgatory.

Re: Hello and mat questions
One thing I do need is a sleeping mat. Exped and Thermarest seem to be the names that come up on here but they seem quite spendy - well north of £100 for what to the untrained eye appears to be a glorified lilo, although I am sure there is more to them than that. Are there any decent cheap mat opti...

Re: North Norfolk Coast
I rode through Holkham at the end of April looking for a place to pitch but even at dusk there was a heavy presence of dog walkers on NCN Route 1 and on the beach (the public toilet block there was nailed shut when I went past) and there were lots of people at the campsite. If you spent some time sc...

Re: Tarp/tent fabric and water resistance?
is the comparison with waterproof jackets much help? Not sure, I have had lower-rated WPs and Windstopper Active shell jackets wetting through seemingly faster in windier conditions. The wind can add to the pressure the water hits the jacket at and the WP rating is based on pressure. When sitting o...

Re: Cairngorms Loop(s) advice.
If you take the outer loop the entire way around and go straight down Glen Tilt to Blair Atholl that is the Tour of the Cairngorms (which preexists the CL if I remember correctly). The only lengthy HaB would be Burn of Brown (dependent on how much water is in the river). There are two narrow/five wi...

I have two pairs of prescription glasses, exactly the same materials, which I have been wearing with my facemask the last y...

Re: Navigation tips for glasses wearer
Are your glasses just your regular spectacles? When I got a pair of prescription cycling glasses almost all of my steaming issues went away. Could have been the wraparound shape allowing more air movement to carry moisture away, vents in the lenses ditto, the glasses being raised further away from t...

Re: Clothes layering advice: what under softshell or what on top of merino?
I aim to be comfortable on the bike ~75% of the time. I can deal with being chilled by the wind through the fleece or being too warm for a short period of time (knowing there is a climb/downhill coming soon) but if I aimed for 100% comfort I would be stopped every 10 minutes changing layers and my r...

Are there any other super sweaters out there? The sort who leave a sodden imprint in the gym, are dripping after 10 minutes on the bike and cannot find a jacket that breathes enough to stay dry? I replaced my gravel bike's rear tyre which had worn down to slicks, tubeless popped straight on first time with no mess. Now to leave the sealant to soak into the sidewalls overnight for a ride tomorrow.
