Re: Remember when we were discussing ...

With regards to not knowing if sexuality is proportionally represented, I will summarise my experience with it on here. The expected state I have is that people would not be nice about it, or not understand then not try to. That is my life experience. When I realised how gapping the hole of represen...

Re: Do you still cycle tour "traditionally"?

I still use panniers. Mainly for mini trips that I decide at the absolute last minute. Typically it is half an hour or less packing and planning, an hour riding, 8 hours sleeping, an hour riding, usually on a school night as a circuit breaker style thing. I can pack them fast where I keep my kit, an...

Re: Improving Bikepacking

The more I think about bikepacking in relation to other activities, it really misses out that grassroots community. Well, it is almost all amateur which is pretty grass level I guess, but you can't join a bikepacking club the same way say rugby, football, or even road cycling clubs exist. I massivel...

Re: Improving Bikepacking

I won't go into the specifics but bikepacking has had a truly transformative affect on me. As well as an escape and coping mechanism it has fostered my problem solving attitude and awareness of nature which has impacted my eco lifestyle and activism. It would feel so selfish to not want other people...

Swaps. New Gatewood cape Gore One Thermium jacket medium

So I fully appreciate that cash is a fantastic invention, but it is also boring. Swapsies is more fun. On the table are an unused Gatewood cape in grey and a used Gore thermium primaloft gold active warm jacket. Jacket is an impressive fabric that actually satisfies the warm, breathable, packable tr...

Re: Battery powered light recommendations?

Would a headtorch not satisfy most of these requirements? I have used my alpkit gamma with three AAA. It has rechargeable ones in for almost all the time from home short trips so is not just disposable batteries. Lasts a full night on low but also ok for teckie on full blast, admittedly it is mildly...

Re: Bivvy a month 2020.

This bivi out was fair chuffed by the fire in my belly. The fuel was the blame and shame culture that is being currated by the media. I needed to escape this distopia and return to reality. After stuffing my face with mash and my bike with kit I left. I had no destination in mind. I did not care. Be...

Re: Bivvy a month 2020.

As a placemarker for records sake, while I find time to match the appropriate words to give it justice alongside this rediscovered inconvenience of work, I went out in August for the WRT. Ate lots of good food. Had a fantastic weekend. Loved every second.

Re: A question - everyone can play.

Yeah. My main compromises with campsites are they are in a fixed location, and that location usually isn't as interesting as somewhere within range. I'd probably sack bikepacking off if I couldn't wild camp, and ride through the night a lot more. Camping would be a long weekend finding cool sticks, ...

Re: Pimp my breakfast

Using the kit listed in the op, crumpets dry toasted on the pan as they have a small enough diameter with peanut butter (other toppins are available such as avocado, cheese, smoked salmon, dried meat). Another option would be jazzing even more bits into the oats. Chia seeds and strawberries(possible...

Re: Hammock underquilt advise please

Has anyone tried a sleeping bag with a double ended zip with the hammock poked through the toe end? Essentially make the bottom half of the sleeping bag into your under quilt. I am sure there is a fundamental problem with this, draughty and the hammock wanting to be wider than the sleeping bag dimen...

Re: Off Cuts

From my experience a walking foot made most difference rather than bulkiness of a machine, although walking feet are hardly cheap. The feet lift up as the fabric is pulled though the machine then stamp back down, similar to a walk, so the slippy fabric and fluffy insulation do not bunch and jam. It'...

Re: WTD - Wildcat seatpack

This did happen to me a morning into a weekend trip. Tied it together with guy lines as a temp bodge that was sturdy but did wear out the dyneema when I removed it. Unpicked the zig zag stitch and replaced with some similar webbing in less than 10 minutes. Happily add my hat into the repair ring beh...

Re: Bivvy a month 2020.

Back on that fourth of July, when the pubs reopened, me and Jack decided restrictions had been eased enough that riding bikes together all day and sleeping in adjacent ditches would be as acceptable as it had ever been. We had months of catching up to do, and a long easy bike ride was just the way t...

Mobile modular sleep system

This was mainly a project that I could sink plenty of daydream time into intricate niche specifications but it turns out to be surprisingly practical and may even be useful! The inspiration for this was the fear of getting out of the sleeping bag/quilt in the middle of night to go for a wee. Hence b...

Standard time rich purpose poor story of lockdown lead me down the path of fixing, designing, then making kit. Here is the tarp I did. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50093548672_5061b60ddd_c.jpg Waterproof from above if not below. Maybe a bathtub midge net combo is a project for the pipeline. 1...

Re: What do you think about when you are riding?

I had a ridiculously productive commute home by bike in those days gone by. So often I would be stumped at a problem all day only to solve it on the way home. Day rides depend massively how hard I am pushing, with the harder the emptier my mind becomes. I usually find the first four to six hours of ...

Thetmarest z lite or similar. Mainly asking from a sustainability point of view than saving from the £40 price tag. Have found the fiver roll up one perfectly comfy for my continued back garden camping, but it is frustratingly bulky to pack on a bike. Appreciate the folding does not do much, but I h...

Re: Smallest usable tarp

In a race to the bottom with consideration of wind direction I reckon a right angle triangle of 1.4 could do it, as the lower half of the square does not pull it's weight in protection per sq cm
