Re: BB200 route.

I take my hat off to you, Steve, for doing the 300 in 26 hours. I got back in 32 hours + a bit, but had four hours sleep in Shelve, as I was cold and wet after the slog over Long Mynd and Stiperstones.

Good route, but very much unrelenting as usual :-bd

Re: BB200 route.

Bad luck Bob. Things didn’t get easier after Bucknell, so a wise choice. I’ve seen Kenny and Andy W today. Kenny is bashing it out on his SS, aiming to finish before dark. Andy has ripped the drive side pedal out of his crank, but planning on walking/ coasting/ one-legged riding his way to the finis...

Re: BB200 route.

Made it to Caersws. Last push (probably literally) still to go. But first, I have a jacket potato with tuna to demolish.
It’s pretty tough out there. Honestly, it is!

Re: BB200 route.

That reminds me, that ridiculously steep and long push in Hopton. We used to come down that on XC races in the 90’s. It was called The Cliff.

Re: BB200 route.

Currently recomposing myself in Clun, following a trip to the spar. Possibly went off a bit quick and paying for it now. Bit sketchy on the gravel bike in the wet, but could be worse.

Re: BB200 route.

Well, I’ve arrived. First one here (at least in the car park). Scoped out the Bivvy options; the Wendy house was a bit small, but they’ve put up a lovely wooden covered pergola thing round the back, so chances are you’ll find me in that tonight :-bd

I’m out of touch, having lived away from Wales for 4 years.
Is anyone having a drink this evening anywhere, in the company, or not, of other bikepackers?

Re: BB200 route.

Thinking back to the first few we did way back then, the nights were punishing for cold some years in mid October. We’re not getting as cold a weather as early in the season anymore. That’s global warming for you.

Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy

I’m up for it, depending on where in Scotland suits most people. I’m in Perth. There’s a non-MBA Bothy out Dunkeld way which would be quiet enough I think. I did a trip recently to Faindouran (Glen Avon) which was pretty good, room for quite a few in the attic, but you’d need to haul in fuel for the...

I’ve already set off south. Packed my summer bag. Forecast is for it to warm up over the weekend, fingers crossed.

Re: BB200 route.

Pretty sure I won’t make Welshpool for midnight. A 2am MacDonalds is a questionable strategy for me, as I’m sure that all I’ll want to do after eating it is fall asleep (even if I chase it down with two coffees). That said, it’s doubtful I’ll be able to ride right through the night, so perhaps aimin...

Re: BB200 route.

Right, got you Bob. Went over my head that one (out of practice). There's bits of the route reminiscent of 2018 (I think), though the other way around. That was a great route, and the off road bits look sufficiently punctuated with tarmac that there's opportunity to gather wits periodically. Looking...

Re: BB200 route.

I suppose it depends on which side of the ridgeway track you ride  There's a 24hr garage at Welshpool, it's a couple of km off-route but it's a flat off-route. As in Kerry Ridgeway? That section is pretty straight forward, is it not? (have ridden it before several times and nothing stands out ...

Re: BB200 route.

Not much November BB200/300 chat then? Have scrutinised the 300 route carefully. Must be the most English BB route ever? A few resupply points. Might make Clun before it closes at 8pm. Welshpool will be shut, most likely. Bit of a sting in the tail above Llandinam, but the route does swing by Caersw...

Top route, and now the only person in the world with 3 orange badges (except Stu who has 58) Thanks to Stu and Dee for the organising. Apologies for not having much chat at the end - was a b...
