Ti Jones for sale (not mine of course)

Seeing as this is a hotbed of Jones fans (myself included), there’s a guy on the Jeff Jones Bikes Owners Page on Facebook selling a bike that may interest people on here. Look for the ad from Peter Lakin (I don’t know him at all): Right then with a heavy heart I have to put my titanium Jones diamond...

Re: What's like a small carabiner but not...

Oval screw gate karabiner or a maillon rapide would be my recommendation. The oval karabiner, with the webbing in each of the rounded ends will ensure that the strain is pulling across the gate as per a typical climbing load. The maillon rapide is more permanent, whereas the screw gate is designed t...

Re: who rides Ti ?

Three. And I've sold two others. I like the feel. I like the weight. I like the bare metal look. I like the fact that I can mistreat the frame by strapping bags to it and it comes up like new. I like the fact that I can buy custom Ti frames for much less than alloy and steel frames from some of the...

Hi Ray,

Can you email or message me the route please? I’m just nosy, but I’ll put it on a Google Drive link that you can then put on the Facebook page.

Cheers,

Re: Coffee bags or other options

Allow me to introduce the GSI Java Drip Ultralight: https://www.outdoorgb.com/p/GSI_Outdoors_Ultralight_Java_Drip/ I’ve used this for years, it does mean you need a second water receptacle, either to pour from or pour into, but a water bottle won’t die with a mild exposure to boiling water. I take j...

Lidl have SIS gels at £6 for 12 at the moment. The one I was in had some decent flavours - apple and cherry. They have less of a snot consistency when properly warm, as I discovered yesterday,

Seeing as this is the bargain thread, you can save money on a limescale filter by moving to Scotland instead.

I’ve posted handlebars in massive cuboid boxes so I can use the maximum internal diagonal instead of paying for a large parcel price if I send it in a thinner box.

Sorry to anyone who has had to pick up one of those monstrosities (that weigh almost nothing helpfully).

Re: Do you ever count how much crap you have?

I only ever consider it to be a problem when I’ve got more than a bike’s worth of spares. Thankfully I’m still at least a frame and fork short of that, but I have a fair few random wheels dotted around.

I'm in two minds for this. You should go, or at least be in the area, I like to have a plan B in case I scratch  Sadly my van has gone to heaven. I do know many of the bailout spots on the Cairngorms Loop, and the best return routes to Blair Atholl. In many cases you’re quicker finishing most...

It's the middle of July, you can't see the mountains for the mist, it's raining and about 12 degrees. Hopefully, anyone who buys into that pretentious middle class bollox will have the same. :-bd Yeah, they'll get about 30 seconds of Instagram-friendly heaven at the start, and will wake up midway t...

Re: Cairngorms Loop 300 - September Group Start?

I'm in two minds for this. I'm woefully unfit so couldn't do the route much justice, but then having a route to ride would focus my training. It's also tempting to just solo the route so I'm not pressured into riding at a race pace (not that I could tbh) and blow up.

145 quid per night to bivi (breakfast included)

Is it just me, or is this a posh bivi without much consideration for the reality of a bivi night (no sleep, being awoken by wind)?

Re: How often do you take a stove?

If there’s a bothy involved (and its use is intentional), I’ll always have a stove with me - it’s something to do to pass the time. Any kind of adventure from the house, no stove as I’ll leave after dinner and just roll home for breakfast. In between that, if it’s a trip where I can guarantee daily ...

Hello,

Does anyone have a rear 32h Hope Pro 2 or 4 for sale? Non-Boost, QR preferably.

Also, Salsa Woodchippers, either metal or carbon?

Thanks.

A Surly rim strip over the holes, then wide gorilla tape over that worked for me. It needs to be the wide tape as it needs to cover the whole width of the rim in one pass.

Re: Sleeping Bag Rated to -6 and a tent 3 edging into 4 season tent

I have the Quantum 350, and think it’s great. I do wonder if they’re being generous with the -6 rating, but I’ve never actually been cold in it, and that includes every Bearbones winter bivi I’ve been on. In terms of tents, I’ve got a Laser Comp, but I’ve wondered about the Solar as a winter tent. T...

Potentially a silly idea, but I cant shake the Colorado Trail from my head. I've reconciled the positives and negatives of the race vs ITT / Tour style or the going alone / with friends either. Thinking about, its not actually that silly an idea so perhaps I should go for it... I also have the Colo...

Great idea. There’s a secondary use in that they provide a temporary collar if your dropper dies on a big ride - someone mentioned similar in a Facebook group I’m in.

Does 50mm cover other manufacturers too? From memory my Wildcat and Revelate packs have straps of broadly similar sizes

Re: Highland Trail 550 - 2020

We’ll need to review the list of supply stops after this as there’s a real risk some may disappear in the next few months. Plenty of precarious operations using their summer takings to pay their winter debts, and if opening delays much then they may not have that chance. I'll do my bit by heading up...
