Re: Packing, what? where?

For me its dry bag at the front where things need to stay dry. (sleeping bag, dry/sleeping clothes) Generally stuff on the front doesnt get too wet from puddles etc.

Anything on the back of the bike has to be able to cope with getting damp, so bivi, tarp etc

Re: DD tarp

I've used one for a year, but now swapped for something different. At 3x3 its huge. Sometimes i found it difficult to pitch for its size, although that could be me. Weight wise its not the lightest around, and i always found it difficult to pack down to a small size in the real world, when its wet a...

Summer Scotland Trip

Just booked my tickets to Scotland for a 2 week trip in June. Setting off from Oban on the 16th of June, riding around the Outer Hebribies for a week, over to Skye, and then riding across to Montrose to catch the train back home on the 30th. Not looking to do mega miles, and expect to spend as much ...

I was being a bit optamistic with my hunka. It was still repelling water in the light drizzle, but it was also soaking through.

Re: 2012 Bivvy* a month challenge

Aprils trip already ticked off. Decided to head to the Lakes, to try out some options ahead of my big summer trip to Scotland. New Frame bag and Seat bag to try out. Need to work out the best way to pack everything in. Few ideas to reduce pack size, to try out next time. Customery starting point for...

Re: Recommend me some lightweight guylines please?

If you're looking for Dyneema or other lightweight strong cord, go down to your local climbing shop. You'll be able to buy in the lenghts you want, and they'll be able to seal the ends for you.

Re: Easter Lakes Bivi Trip

Had a bit of a think about the original route i was planning, and i've cut out a lot of the high passes. If anyone is interested i'm joining me, i'm planning on leaving Stavaley at about lunchtime on good friday. Heading over to Windermere and getting the ferry across to Grizdale, for a ride through...

Re: 2012 Bivvy* a month challenge

Got out for my March trip at the weekend. We were riding the Rangers Path down Snowdon, so it all seemed to fit in nicely. Re: 2012 Bivvy* a month challenge

Squeezed mine at the last minute as well. Decided to do the Mary Towneley Loop around Calderdale, and set off a bit later than expected, but riding through the dark was rather enjoyable. Forgot to charge my camera so only this to share. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7043/6932447803_4ce13c051a.jpg Ma...

Re: Bike Bags

I have one of the own branded Chain Reaction ones.

Plenty of padding and worked well for a trip to the Alps. Bit of a tight squeeze on getting the frame in so make sure you check the size of your bike against the bag. Other than that just buy loads of bubble wrap and go crazy.

Easter Lakes Bivi Trip

I'm planning a multiday trip in the Lake District over the Easter Weekend. A few hills, a bit of road, some hike a bike and a ferry or too. Thinking of a big loop starting in Windermere, over high street, ferry to Glenridding, old coach road to Threlkeld, around the back of Skiddaw to Bassenthwaite,...

Re: WRT Trails

Depends on what route you pick really ;) From the past 2 years my routes have probably been 70% Forest/Farm double track 20% Road 5% Singletrack 5% Pushing/carrying Ride what ever you have. Good mixed of bikes from ridgid SS 29ers, hardtails, full sus and a few cyclocross bikes as well, were used la...

Re: Lakes route. Any suggestions to improve?

Been thinking about a trip like this myself. Possibly over easter if the weathers looking good. The issue with the Lakes is being able to ride the bike (loaded) rather than have to carry it. I've carried over Black Sail pass before and pushed a fair amount down the other side. so wanting to avoid th...

Thanks Stu & Dee for another great weekend, and keeping me topped up with tea.

Also a big thanks to Taylor and Pete for putting up my tarp. Much better than my first attempt whilst freezing cold.
