Re: Bargain Alert Thread

PlanetX have 29+ (29x3-3.5) inner tubes on for £0.99 at the minute! Maybe small, but a bit of a bargain given that 29+ tubes are normally in the £8-10 region.

Actually, I have a black XL Krampus Ops that has been sitting pretty much unused since I realised I could fit 29x3 in my Broken Road. If consider selling it if you want?

Re: Bivvy a Month 2021

After a long write up last month for a short trip... I give you a short write up this month for a longer trip.... Tour of the Cotswolds with In Reverse, started Sunday lunchtime and finished Wednesday lunchtime, 266 miles, over 21,000 feet and I lost count of the pub stops  Glad you enjoyed it...

Re: Backcounty 3000 bivy: thoughts?

Before buying any bivy that isn't made of a waterproof membrane, and to be honest, any waterproof membrane that isn't eVent, have a really good think about how you want to use it and how fussed you are about getting a very noticable layer on condensation inside. While all bivys might say "water...

If you are a web developer, then feel free to clone my code here: https://github.com/thechrisps/mapbrowser that does a similar thing; it displays full screen OS, OSM and Bing Satellite images on top of each other. You can vary the opacity of each layer, or use keyboard shortcuts (numbers 1-3) to sna...

Re: Thermarest Hyperion sleeping bag reviews

Back to the OPs question, I have the Thermarest Vesper 32, which I believe is just the Hyperion 32 in quilt format. I bought this after a lot of procrastinating between Enlightened Equipment, Cumulus and a few others. Overall though, very happy with my purchase. It is subjectively warmer than the Ra...

Re: Qu. for eTrex users

Then when you are done, if you link it with your Garmin Connect account, you can just "star" the route and it will be automagically sent to your Garmin (this works for my Edge 810 and Fenix 5, so I presume it would work for an eTrex too) Unfortunately not - despite being able to receive a...

Re: jones mudguards

I have the same setup on my 29+. One thing I have done which I find very useful is to add a sheet of 2mm plastic (you can use an old tub or something) on the back of the front mudguard. My sheet is probably about 15cm long and a bit wider than the guard itself. I attach it with 3 cable ties (one at ...

Re: Qu. for eTrex users

Have a look at www.plotaroute.com . £17/year, but having tried a few different apps and sites, I think its the best map plotting tool. Really good routing system, and quick to switch between OS, OSM Trail, Satellite and a few others. Then when you are done, if you link it with your Garmin Connect ac...

What do you mean exactly? I have an 810, which I would imagine would be pretty much the same... but the mapping is just a standard OS map with a little triangle showing your position and a line showing your route... like the main picture here: https://road.cc/content/review/100530-garmin-edge-810-tr...

Re: Why eTrex Over Edge?

Interesting thoughts - sounds like maybe there isn't as much eTrex love as I thought!

On the touchscreen issue though, Garmin must have changed their units, because my 810 is a resistive touch, so works fine in the wet / with gloves etc

Why eTrex Over Edge?

Random question; why do eTrex devices get so much love? They always come up as the recommended device for nav, but I can't really see their advantage over the Edge devices. I have had an Edge 810 that I picked up years ago second had for about £80 in a silicone case and it, and its internal battery ...

Surely as well all that moisture will add up over time and collect in the mat? A Neoair valve is so small, I reckon it would be very hard to effectively dry it out. But as others say, its just way easier to use the inflation bag! (As a side note, my wife's NeoAir did have to be replaced because it g...

Have you considered the new 2021 non-pro Lanshan? A little heavier, but has a separate inner, so condensation is easier to manage. The new 2021 edition inner is 20 (??) cm longer than the last version. (note that I have never tried one!) As others say though, trees, pitching at a higher altitude awa...

Re: Big Agnes tent experts......

Out of interest, do Copper Spur owners have issues in high wind. For car camping we have an REI Half Dome, which is similar. But I took it to the Arctic once and it was awful in the wind unless the non door sides were perfectly angled into the wind. I always thought any tent of that sort of design w...

Can I ask how you pack it in your bike bags? Outer/inner together in its sack or separated and packed/stuffed loose to save on pack size? I assume if it's being packed wet, you're separating it and ensuring the dampness isn't making other things wet? If it's wet, I fold the inner carefully so that ...

@Mactheknife68, really consider the inner vs outer first question. For longer trips (back/bikepacking & sea kayaking), I find the key to enjoying your shelter setup is not avoiding wet, but being able to manage it. For me, this means a tent where: I don't have to pitch an inner before I can get ...
